Help Amplifier toast

Took my truck to the dealership because the mirror defrost was not working, they found a broken wire and fixed it. Apparently I cut it while running fridge cable. Now the dealership is telling me I need a amplier because when I cut the wire it Burned out the amplifier. Part number is 88650-35430. Does this sound correct? My ears perked up when they said I could buy the part from them ($740)and they would install for free. I can get the part for $450ish online.

Anyone know how hard it is to install? Is this BS ?

I'm not a mechanic or anything, but I would certainly be questioning the $300ish difference. Think you may be better off buying it yourself and finding someone to do it or do it yourself.
 
That's a part number for an Air Amplifier. Diagram looks like it goes inside the dash and does something magical somewhere near the AC condenser. It controls the speed of the AC compressor. You would have to remove the dash to get to it.

My AC compressor seems to be working fine, anyone know if it happens to control anything else?

Probably up under/behind the dash on the passenger side. This is a '92...

So you ran your fridge power through the passenger side firewall?

I ran mine, 8 awg, down the driver side kick plates, through the factory looms. It is why I asked because I am a bit confused.

Mine goes through the drivers side factory loom as well.
 
Did you use a coat hanger or something to fish the wire through the grommet? I'm betting that you hit something that way.

I also ran my 8gauge through the passenger side, it's really easy to poke the wire bundle if you aren't careful

I bet your right.

Anyone have access to the wiring diagram for the mirror defroster?
