Nah that's normal. After doing my lift both my cv shafts started spewing grease all over the place. That was like a year and a half ago and I'm still using the same ones.

Some do, some don't after lifting. Usually this is caused by the CV boots sliding back a little and loosening up.

There are two cures for this.
1- Yank the axles out and have them re-booted
or
2- cut off the old clamps and do this http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/90980-stretch-your-cv-boots.html . Quick, cheap and easy.

Remember that on a 10-15 year old vehicle that the CV boots are old, dry and brittle. Mine didn't leak after lifting for years then they finally tore due mainly from age.

Yep... get use to it. If you replace them they will just leak again. Best you can do is just forget about it until they break, then just replace them.
The problem is that the boots are filled with too much grease for the angle of the CV, so pressure tears the boot.

I've never really heard of anyone having problems with new CVs once they are replaced. I've had several Napas and a couple 4wheelparts CVs and they break on the trails, but none of them ever leaked except my original stock ones. The stock CVs just get used to sitting in one position for about a decade and when you suddenly change the angle, they don't like it. The CVs themselves will still usually last a long time though even after they start leaking, so I would just try to clamp em like Gerdo suggested. Hell, I clamped my original CVs when they started leaking like yours. Then the boots just tore open after a while, so then I wrapped duct tape around them and they were good for another month or two. Then the boots just fell off altogether. I still drove mine through an entire snowy and muddy winter with no boots at all and they still never did break. I just replaced them for good measure.

What is the downfall of actually breaking the axle? Will this cause other problems? Can I wheel with a torn CV?
Thanks in advance

I have rebooted cv shafts and them leak again. You want to do the skip mod that way the ripples on the cv boots dont rub against each other. With a diff drop they sometimes dont rub but in my truck they do. I have ran with torn cv shafts for years on my 4runner and 400whp Eagle Talon.

So from the sounds of things you guys haven't had much luck with just pulling the haft shaft and replacing the boots?

I bought a 4runner that was recently lifted and one of the boots is torn. I was planning on pulling both axles and replacing the boots with new OEM ones. Although it might be a better idea just buying brand new OEM axles...?
