Guys! I have a 2009 Tacoma and need a car for my wife who is expecting in June. I will be ordering a silver SR5 premium package and have a few questions....

1.) I'm gonna try and negotiate different wheels and tires...and want to know if other toyota wheels will fit? Wheels from the TRD pro perhaps?

2.) what is the largest tire size that will fit without a lift

3.) if I have to get aftermarket wheels..what do I need for size? I have some wheels on my Tacoma with slight back spacing....can't remember how much...and would like to do this for the 4Runner. What is the right amount of back spacing to get the wheels sticking out a little more?

4.) wouldn't mind black wheels with the silver paint...any suggestions?

Lastly...any KNOWN issues or TSBs I should look for or have addressed before I take delivery.

1) TRD Pro wheel will fit
2) To be safe, 275/70/17 without any lift. You may need the fender liner mod.
3) Needs at least 17" wheels to clear the calipers
4) Wheels are subjective. I prefer a cleaner, simple look of FN wheels or Stealth Custom Series rather than the bro'd out brands like XD, KMC, BMF, Fuel.
5) Don't think there are any big TSBs.
 
Thanks for the info...any pics of 4 runners with that tire size and no lift out there?

Also....any info on wheel back Spacing....or should I just do spacers?

The question you forgot to ask: How difficult is it for a woman who is in her eighth or ninth month of pregnancy to get in and out of a current model 4Runner? You had better make sure you have full approval before proceeding. Other than that, good for you buying your wife and soon to be child a safe, dependable vehicle that won't get ran over in traffic! I would imagine that the height will make things much easier when it gets to moving child seats in and out.

Thanks man....I think that's what I have for backspacing on my tacoma wheels too....looking for suggestions for black aftermarket wheels with 4.5 backspacing....also for pics with 275/70/17 wheels and no lift....am I a tard or does the search function not work?

Thanks...what is the fender mod?
They come stock with 265/70/7?

Most likely you'll be OK. It really depends on the rim offset for the wheels you buy, and the actual tire. Lower offset wheels than stock push the tires outboard, and the swing radius of the shoulder of the tire gets larger and closer to the fender liner. Some 275 tires are wider across the tread than others. Worst case you do the fender liner mod.

What about going with 275/70/17 and wheels that are 4.5 backspacing

What width rim? Back spacing is only one part of the equation. A 7.0" rim at 4.5" back spacing has a 12mm offset while a 8.0" rim at 4.5" back spacing has a 0mm offset and the tire will be pushed out 12mm, increasing the swing radius.

Take at look at Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com where you can plug in the numbers and see what the results from different rim and tire size are.
 
Any issues or TSBs to look out for? I noticed a few 2014s had some condensation in the rear tail lights....things like this I should keep an eye out for?
 
Dude, my 2015 has condensation in my tail light. My 2012 had condensation. It is only a tiny bit and goes away as soon as the sun comes out. I could go get new tail lights from the dealer but unless it gets worse so what. I do think there is some obscure TSB for side mirror whistling on the '14's. Whatever engineer who took the concept and turned it into the current side mirror had to have been deaf when they tested it in the wind tunnel. In certain conditions they will whistle a tune. I have about 1.5K miles on my '15 now and it is a fine vehicle. Don't overthink it, just get it. This is my 3rd 5th gen...
