i just got my scion hu, but i'm not sure how to take out the old head unit. i don't want to pry along, and scrach the interior surrounding the head unit. does anyone know where i need to start to take off the plastic molding, where all the attachments are? i'm a nubie at "do-it-yourself" projects. pics and/or any advise will be greatly appriciated. thanks in advance.

i'll take pics as i'm doing the job, will post them, try to help out the next member with the same mod.

The link to instructions that UoD gave you is pretty easy to follow. It's a lot to take apart and will take a few hours but everything goes back together just fine (and you'll be relieved when it does).

I just installed a 2006 Scion HU and PIE adapter. Took the best part of the afternoon but was worth it.

A search will also bring up lots of advice.

You might already know this, but if you get the '06 version don't forget to hold down the 'SSP' button, it lets you change which Scion it would go in. It has preset equalizer settings, makes a big difference in the sound.

Which scion model setting do you think sounds best? I have mine set to the xB.

After flipping through the settings about 50 times, I settled on xB as well. I generally leave it on 'hear'.
I had mine on "hear" but it raised the bass and muddled some music....so went back to normal.

i have it in now. thanks for all the helpful post. i do have a few questions though. on normal, the sound is really low, althought it sounds great on hear and feel, is that how it's supposed to be? also, i have to turn the volume numbers higher : volume level 20 on the scion hu is equal to volme level 15 on the stock hu, is that normal?

ok, most of you might know this already but i'm posting it again anyways.

to change the word "scion" to something else on the scion hu.

turn key to "on" and turn on the radio. press and hold "A" and turn key pass "ACC" to "off"

still holding "A" turn key pass "ACC" back to "on"

let go of "A" then press and hold "B"

turn key pass "ACC" to "off", then let go of "B"

a box over the letters will blink, push volume up or down to change letters. caps and lower case + number and symbols will be there. "A" to move forward to next space, "B" to go back, the "blank/space" is after the 9. you have 30 seconds to spell you word. can repeat process and continue if you run out of time. you have 12 spaces to play with.

someone repost and correct me if i'm wrong.

hope this helps.
