Help me decide my tires to match the lift

Have a stage 1 icon kit coming in the mail that can lift me up to 3 inches.
I'm assuming that I need bigger tires to avoid my rig looking like a roller skater.
So i am debating on the following:

285 70 17's
Pros: Fills up those wheel wells and Added traction, also looks pretty sweet
Cons Loss of Power and MPG (I'm a sucker for MPG)

275 70 17's
Pros: Not as heavy as the 285's
Cons: odd tire size, might be hard to find a spare, and the difference might not be noticeable.

265 70 17's
Pros: Stock size, MPG should stay the same,
Cons: (possible) Roller skate look, loss of tread.
Note: May have to go with a beefier tire brand if I am sticking to this size

What do you guys think?
Does anyone have any suggestions on compensating for power/mpg loss? Is anyone still running stock tire size with a lift like this? And if so how do you like it/dislike it?

I would go with option 1 with a 3" lift. Or you can go to 265/75/16.

Interesting, that would fill up the wheel well while still maintaining the better part of the efficiency? I would have to move down an inch in rim size though. Any problems with that? I know the 4th gen had bigger brake calipers that wouldn't fit the 16"

I think the type of tire is more important then the size if you are going for looks. The aggressive tread on an AT or MT in my mind looks much better on the 4runner regardless of size. Granted for those of us who do 99.5% of street driving MT's don't make a lot of sense, but if thats what you like/want go for it.

I put on 285/70/17 on my 06 sport addition with a 3/2 Procomp spacer lift and spider trax and love the look. I did not notice any change in gas mileage.

I'm at 2" with 265/70-17 AT's and perfectly happy with the look. YMMV

255/85r17 cooper ST MAXX w 2.5 to 3 inch lift

Pros: works great on stock rim, no rubbing, inexpensive, quiet, aggressive

You forgot to mention what you plan to do with the truck. Any real offroading?

As far as size.

285 70 or
34x10.5 ko2

Not sure if the 34 ko2 (which is really a 33.5) would fit without a little trimming, but it should be a great performing tire on and off road. A few people here have them, so you could do a search on their fitment.

I'm in the same boat. Mine is leveled and I'd do an Icon lift but don't want to deal with all the BS 285 rubbing issues. I love my current 265 Duratracs but don't want to keep itty bitty titty wheels with a lift.

So... no lift for now.

I'm running 265/70/17 in the Cooper ATP with my 2.5" lift and I will say that I want beefier tread. I'm sold on the stock tire size since its my DD and mpg are important to me. However those Ko2's are on my list for the next upgrade.

Don't forget the possibility of rubbing, and even a body mount chop.

My onboard mpg calculator has me in the 15s. Even with correction, that's low 16s. You can't be seriously concerned about MPG and drive this rolling brick. Sounds like you should trade your rig in for a Highlander

Also consider 255/80-17s, which is what I'm running. Only offered in KM2s and ST Maxx at the moment. 255/75-17s might be an option as well.

I've read here that 16s won't fit, but have never personally tried.

Haven't considered 255-80-17s. I imagine they loose weight by being skinnier . No I am not concerned about mpg that much but I would like to keep what I have.

I forgot to mention. I off-road once every couple months. Might go more when the lift comes in. I'm intrigued to hear that people are running 285s with no loss in performance. You guys must be following that Eco light!

well they are. There are quite a few 275 tires out there. Mine are BFG KO2s

I saw your post a while back and upon looking upon searching for that size I was shocked! The 285/70r17 is $236/ea at the best price I could find, whereas the 275/70r17 was $189/ea. I couldn't believe it. That's cheaper that most AT's in stock size! I don't know why that particular size is so cheap, but it's definitely a good option. I didn't check but I guess it could also be because it's the lighter load rating, but still that's a hell of a deal.

nope, my 275s are E rated just like the 285s are

Where'd you see that price?
