Help me with some electrical gremlins

Having a few weird electrical issues on my '14 Trail. Id appreciate any advice or insight into what to do. Trying to see if it is something simple that I can fix myself before taking the time to bring it into the dealer.

- Starting a few weeks ago I would lock the doors and then randomly the alarm would start going off.
- The driver's door puddle light does not turn on when I open the door. Sometimes the overhead lights turn on, sometimes they don't.
- Headlights don't turn off when I lock the 4R (hit lock twice).
- Today I went to look under the hood to see if the battery maybe had a loose connection. I opened my driver's door and as I was looking under the hood the 4R would lock. Keys were sitting on the driver's seat.

It's like the 4R isn't "processing" when the driver's door is open except sometimes the interior lights DO come on right when I open the door.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an issue with your door switch. It is typically a grounding switch. I'll take anote ohm meter to mine and figure out what may be going on. Probably just need to change out the switch.

Those are some crazy gremlins. I have never experienced something like that by my first thought would be the Body Control Module. I believe it is the computer responsible for things like doors, locks, lights, alarm interface, etc.

I don't know where exactly it's located but I think it is somewhere in the driver side kick panel next to the parking brake pedal.

Check for obvious things like making sure the wiring harness is correctly plugged in or that there isn't some loose ground wire somewhere to the BCM.

POST EDIT: After re-reading your issues, checking the driver door switch like [MENTION=140923]fbksurferjoe[/MENTION] said sounds like a better answer.

It's not a grounding switch, it's a sensing switch.

OP- Take it to the dealer and have them evaluate it. You have a bad switch or something is loose/cut.

About a year ago I had trouble with our 2000 Tundra acting weird. It would lock / unlock its self with nobody nearby and the keys on the kitchen counter. I changed the batteries in both remotes and that seems to have fixed it. Even though your's is a 14, I see a couple similarities in the symptoms.

I would also guess that the driver door switch may be failing or at least sticking. I would start there unless you're just going to take it to the dealer.

I think the door switch is most likely the culprit, or one of the culprits. The odd thing is when I get in and close my door, the map lights turn off as they are supposed to do when the door is closed. And how the door switch would affect the headlights not turning off is beyond me. If the 4R thinks the door is still open, then it shouldn't let me lock it at all.
