HELP...Unable to Circle Calibrate Compass

Not sure if there's a thread about this...please let me know if there is.

I just got my 2012 SR5 last friday, and made the mistake of playing with the mode button while driving, now I have that "dot" next to directional heading. I read the manual on how to do the circle calibration, but its not working. I lost count of how many circles I drove.

Another thing, when I go into Calibration mode, the dot does not blink as it states in the manual.

Anyone know what could be the issue? Should I have a tech at the dealership do it for me?

First, :welcome:.

Second, in order for the "dot to blink", you must be in deviation calibration mode.

Third, is this the procedure you followed:

If “•” appears on the left side of the direction display, circling calibration needs to be performed.
Stop the vehicle in a place where it is safe to drive in a circle.

In deviation calibration mode (→P. 452 or See note below), press and hold the “MODE/ ” button to change to circling calibration mode.
“•” on the left side of the direction display will blink.
Drive the vehicle at 5 mph (8 km/h) or less in a circle until a direction is displayed.
If there is not enough space to drive in a circle, drive around the block until a direction is displayed.

Press and hold the “MODE/ ”or “SET/ ” button to confirm the direction and to exit circling calibration mode. (If no buttons are pressed for several minutes, the direction will automatically be confirmed and the display returned to normal.)

Make sure that “•” on the left side of the direction display has gone off. If “•” is illuminated, perform the above procedure again.

Still no luck

Hey Folks,

Thank you for all the replies.

I just can't seem to get the dot to blink.

I have all the normal displays. And following the instructions you all provided and having the manual in my hand while doing all the steps, the dot does not blink in deviation calibration mode.

I am in zone 7. So my display in deviation calibration mode says:
07 .NE

However, the dot is not blinking and as I circle at 5mph the direction heading changes (ie. .NE --> .E --> .S etc..) but the "dot" stays there and eventually the normal display appears:
Range, Temp, Direction (wrong direction), etc.

BTW, my 4R does not have the multi terrain info and I have gone in circle both clockwise and counterclockwise.

If I rememebr correctly after you set deviation you need to hold button MODE<down> untill those dot starts blinking. Or maybe you need to turn off parking lights first. I remember that I tried myself a few times before it worked. I drove on my crescent which is not exactly round, but it was enough for calibration. Keep reading the manual, if nothing is working maybe they changed something in 2012.

FINALLY got it fixed!

Hey all,

Spent a moment on my lunchbreak to fix the compass. After numerous button pressing of the mode and set buttons, finally seen the dot blinking! drove around the parking lot of my job and then "magically" lol, the dot disappeared and the directional headings were righton target!

Thanks for all your input!

BTW, not to hijack my own post, but I just ordered the Stubby Antenna from Craven. I'll post my reception results there.

Aloha!
