Help with 5th gen rims/aftermarket.

Im currently running 265/70/17 BFG AT's on stock trail rims. (just an FYI for the following questions)

I do not know what offset and back space & width my factory rims are and I was thinking of keeping the same BS and offset but just going to an 8" rim for a slightly wider stance. I don't want the tires to stick out past the fenders/flares. Is my thinking correct ?? Does it sound like I would get the desired look ? I DONT plan on upsizing tires as i don't want to deal with rubbing issues and the stuff that goes with bigger tires.

Right now I have a CF 2"/1" spacer lift (it came out more 2.5/1.5) I will be installing a suspension lift soon as I can find someone to help me or a shop that would do it and align.

My truck is a 13 TE Silver . I want to black or black / silver combo on the rims. No idea what kind/style yet .

I have looked at several aftermarket wheels and I think what you need to look for is a wheel that is 8" wide with the 0 offset. They stick out approx 1" more than the stock SR5 wheels, but they don't stick out past the fenders.

I cant help you with the specifics of the trail wheels though...

1) You can't keep the same backspacing and offset when you change the width of the wheel. One or the other (or both) will change.
2) It sounds like you actually don't care about backspacing or offset at all, but rather are interested in the outside edge of the wheel/tire package

Honestly, the only way to find the exact look you're after is to search all of the forum pics for the perfect stance you want. Then find the specs of those wheels and go from there. There's no easy answer - you need to find the fitment that pleases YOUR eye.

I just installed FN Wheels, 17x8 Konig Six Shooters. These have 0mm offset and 4.5" backspacing. I have been looking for new wheels since this past December and absolutely would not change a thing.

I used this site when I was trying to ball park how my new wheels (not yet installed) will fit: Tire/Wheel Fitment Calculator.
Using [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION]'s tire fitment guide, you'll get the specs of your stock wheel. Most aftermarket wheel companies will provide you with the data you need to input the specs of your prospective wheel. Once you do that it'll give you quick run down of what will change and what you can expect as far as fender clearance.

As far as wheels go, I got mine from Vin at Stealth Custom Series. He was great to deal with and their Stealth 6's are one of my favorites. You could ask him if he still has black rims with the machined lip in stock (almost what you're looking for - these are 8.5"); a page after this one, SCS Stealth 6 wheels, he's got examples of it mounted on different trucks.

I'm not an expert by any stretch, and I'm very new to off-road in general. I have however done a lot of wheel fitment on performance oriented cars and for some reason the info on tire/wheel fitment ion this forum is the most vague I have ever seen. I understand why (there are just way more variables with lifts, aftermarket UCAs, high aspect ratio tires, and heavy articulation offroad...) but it would be easy to list a few safe bets for the average joe.

Anyway, you mentioned wanting to widen the stance. To me, that usually means wanting the tires to stick out further on each side. But then you described wanting to widen the contact patch of the tires (which is related but not exactly the same thing).

So, from the sticky thread it sounds like the TE wheels are 7.5" wide and have 4.875" backspacing with ~15.875mm positive offset.

Backspacing is how far the inward lip of the wheel sits from the mounting face. While offset is how far the mounting face of the wheel is off from centerline. Positive offset means the face is offset outboard of the centerline (increasing backspacing). They are directly related and can be easily calculated from each other if you know one and the wheel width. There is generally a max backspacing your suspension will accept without rubbing the control arms/struts... but this will be further impacted by the tire size.

If you want an 8" wheel and desire as much tuck as possible, you would be looking for a wheel that has about 10mm of + offset. To me, these trucks look really awkward with a narrow stance and there is more risk of rub on high backspacing, so I would want an offset between 0 and -10 to push the wheel out a bit more.

You should be able to find plenty of 8" wheels with a 0 offset and I'm sure you will be happy with that. I highly recommend talking to FN wheels.

I'd say this or get wheel spacers like spidertrax and stay stock rims which will be $800 cheaper. Although FN Wheels are badass and the weight savings will help every dynamic including mileage to a small degree.

People here have enough trouble as is following a simple guide like the one the engineer put together in the sticky. Can you imagine how many less people would bother to read it and/or understand it if he added that much more information?

The only thing making it more detailed is going to do is create that many more new threads from people asking about how do I read the f'in chart, lol.

While planning this matrix originally I calculated roughly all combinations using all sizes that would fit and all rim sizes, offsets and BS that would work with the 4Runner. It was around 1,200 combinations I think. I then trashed that concept and came up with green, yellow and red and a simple chart I thought everyone could use, but some still have trouble with it even though I provided stock wheel specs for each model and links for more info.
