Help with an explanation for the wife...

I'm trying to concoct an explanation for when my wife notices that my stock 2013 TE wheels got swapped for black Countersteer X's.
I may go with the hub-cap explanation for the comedy of it.

If she doesn't buy it, I may have to try and explain how they will save gas.

Anyone got any suggestions?

That's my out when I come home with an extra gun case. i'd hate for this experiment to cost me $2000.

You have shaved 40 lbs of unsprung mass. That equates to 400 lbs of regular sprung mass. You will save several thousand dollars over the life of the truck.

That, or get her a diamond.

it was like that when I bought it

I thought of this, but she noticed when I had a spare on it a few weeks ago when I had a flat. It only has 3500 miles on it, but if she catches me in a lie, it'll take large diamonds to remedy.

1) You took it to the dealer for an oil change and they messed up your rims with the tire rotation and gave you a free set of rims to compensate for their mistake

4) Tell her the truth. My wife loved the new rims after she saw them on the truck, and I didnt have to lie to her. I sold my stock rims and tires to a fellow forum member and the hit wasnt that bad

Just tell her the truth.

Your stock tires suck and aren't as safe in the snow as you would like.

Plus, you can most likely offset all of the cost for the new wheels when you sell your old wheels/tires.

Then buy her something nice!

I would have to agree with Antman, thell her the truth but with a twist like not the real price you actually paid if that's what bother's you.

And yes, if it's safer she can't get mad at you for spending money you could have given to her to spend on hmmm idk .... ask her what she likes and go get it for her .

Dear Mrs. SShink,

As a fellow 4Runner owner, I can attest to the crappy quality of the stock tires that came with the vehicle. I and many other members on here reluctantly purchased a new set of tires immediately after our purchase since we were all carrying precious cargo very often. OH, and about the rims...Dont you hate it when you buy a new dress and have no shoes to match? I know my wife does!

P.S. I was not compensated nor threatened by your husband to write this. I am doing this as I know all too well the crappy quality of the original tires. They were very unsafe for my family during rain, snow, ice, and dry driving conditions.

Just keep talking about how great the new wheels would be, performance advantages, etc. After a few weeks, she'll let you get them just to shut you up.....trust me on this one.
