helppp! major oil leak?

Not mad, just laughing at your ignorance. No matter what silly crap you come up with next, I'll never get mad.

Take a statistics course and get back to me after you educate yourself.

What ignorance - what information do you have to prove me wrong? Accept the fact that the V8 is a better platform than the V6.

Evidence? What evidence do you have to "prove" yourself correct? Like I said, take a statistics class and get back to me.

Here's me using YOUR logic: I know 6 guys in my town with 4Runners. 3 have V8 models and the other 3 have V6 models. The only one that ever experienced engine failure was one of the V8 guys. So it's now a fact that the V8 engine fails more often then the V6. Are you able to understand how stupid this sounds?

BTW, the V8 is great if you like piston slap and timing belts. LOL

And how did it fail, I bet it was lack of PM....

I love V6 owner's rationalizations about why they didnt get the 8.

I'm done here. If your happy that's all that matters.

Piston slap lasts about 5 seconds on cold mornings and the timing belt is $1k every 90k. Gimme a break.

Rationalization? LOL, FYI, I've owned both V8 and V6 4Runners.

You're also talking with a Toyota tech. I've seen V8 4Runners with failed engines. In fact, we've replaced V8 shortblocks before in our shop. Just because nobody reported it on this forum doesn't mean it hasn't happened. That's where you are ignorant.

I think the key here is that he was off roading with a 2wd. That means no low range. I have off roaded my 4x4 hard for 8 years but use low range as needed to to keep the trans nice and cool. Never had a problem.

Looks like this guy posted his 4Runner v8 failure on the TundraSolutions website (not sure why he didn't post here). Looks like he had an '03 Sport V8. I searched and found his first post about buying the vehicle on here.

Not a lot of information though: 03 V8 engine failure. any others? (4Runner) - Toyota Tundra Forums : Tundra Solutions Forum

Would actually be interested to know more of what happened to his engine...

Oh no...you're going to blow his theory right out of the water if that's true.

IT doesn't matter, you have to take his word for it, the V8 is indestructible! After the Nuclear holocaust V8 4runners will be the only thing running any more! I'm getting mine now!

They are both great engines. I was just playin with eskimo. But don't listen to him when he says the V6 isn't a good engine because it is. He's just a biased fool. LOL

Lots of fail here. The OP's trans which I wanna ask have you ever changed the trans fluid? I race mine drift, track, etc and its flawless still although I have change it and am going to change it again when IPT modifies the valve body. I'm also running a external cooler for it. Again with this 6-8 crap he/she is famous (opinionated) for that just be the bigger person and pay no attention. My 1GRFE has been great and glad I got it.

The only V8 failures I've heard of is when people installed the supercharger and it wasn't tuned properly. A member on this board had his tranny go because of the supercharged V8... maybe because of abuse? Who knows. The V8 is a noisy engine at cold start, but definitely one of the best and most reliable in the world.

Ive only had it for about a little over a year now. The dealer said all the fluids were changed and whatnot when we purchased it, which was less than 20,000 miles ago

Let me get this straight....

A V8's failure, if even possible, is attributed to lack of PM.

A V6's failure is attributed to it having an inferior "platform" compared to the V8.

Gotta love that "V8 owner's rationalization."

I have 40 K on mine and have only changed the oil regularly. I consistently get 23.3 MPG (paper and pencil calculation) and that's 65% Chicago traffic 35% suburban driving.

I use the most basic gasoline. The reason is that the higher octane gasoline burns hotter and therefore "break's the engine in" faster. IMO the break-in mileage for a V6 is 50 K miles and for the V8 closer to 90K miles.
