Here is another reason to buy factory parts

In the summer of 2011 heading up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Auburn-Colfax CA I noticed the engine temperature is going up. The day was a Sunday and had to unwillingly buy a fan clutch from autozone (yes, made in China).

Today, I just installed all the drive belts and a factory fan clutch!

What a difference with the factory clutch...

1)The fan is loud for the first 20-30 seconds and then becomes silent. With the Chinese fan clutch it is loud for 3-4 minutes!

2) The engine temperature comes to the working temperature in about 2 minutes and the RPM drops to 550 at the same time .... Never noticed this with the Chinese make

3) After warming up, with the AC is on, if I rev the engine, for a second and release the throttle, the fan spins at the same high rev for 2-3 seconds and I notice the AC condenser becomes cooler (yes not even warm). I've been studying the 4runner for a while and never noticed this trend with the Chinese crap!

Amazing design by TOYOTA!

Buy factory and enjoy the toyota engineering!

Time to go and re check all the belt's tension.

Just remember OEM on the fan clutch is Aisin. Part No. FCT-013 on the V6. No need to to pay the high price at the dealer.

I got a new Aisin one off CL for $50 four years ago. Works well.

Companies such as Hayden used to make great replacement fan clutches but production in China has made such a purchase a real crapshoot.

Fan clutches are rarely ever replaced and if they are it can be long after the damage is already done .

I was stranded on the freeway and no civilization around. A friend of mine found an Autozone open on a Sunday night and bought it for me.

The actual problem was a clogged radiator...found out a day later!
