Hey Everybody - Just bought 05' SR5 - what should I look out for?

Just bought a 05' SR5 (leftover - 21 miles) for a relatively good price (25800). It's my first T4R and I am wondering what the most common issues that people are having so I can be on the lookout (ie. brakes, engine coils, electrical, etc) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are no real concerns. The only thing you may experience is the exhaust smell of sulfur.

Dont worry about the sulfur problem, starting in Jan 06, the DEP will mandate all gas producer to reduce the sulfur content in their gas. The downside to this is that it will be another excuse for the gas manufacturer to raise prices.

Honestly, I've had my 05 Runner since September, and 4000 miles later, zero issues to report.

I would anticipate you to have the same results. Don't worry yourself about possible issues, just enjoy your new ride~!

47,873 miles so far. Never been in the shop for anything other than fluid changes. These vehicles are bulletproof.

My '05 had an erratic window switch on the front passenger side. It would roll down but on rare occasion it would not roll back up - I had to use the driver's side switch even after I normalized them according to the manual. No big deal since I always keep the windows up most of the time and rely on the climate control. I had it fixed by the dealer at no charge. Just make sure all your window switches work both ways.

Check your tire pressure too. I guess "dealer prep" is a joke because I found all four of my tires at different pressures when I got it home the first night. A quick fire up of the air compressor adjusted that.

Other than that, no problems at all. Enjoy your new runner!

Well now that you've joined the site, watch out for upgrades that tend to drain your wallet

The only problem I've had was squeeking noises coming from my rear (2nd row) seats. Thanks to T4R.org I found this is rather common and you can fix it by applying a little vasoline to the metal post. Fixed it right up.

Watch out for dump trucks or anything else that will chunk a rock/pebble toward your windowshield. If the glass cracks, it will cost you over $600+ to get the darn thing replaced with factory spec'd glass!

As a previous poster wrote.....the mods will cost you FAR more that maintainence and breakdowns. If one was to do 80-90% of the mods from this site alone; it would probably cost them in the neighborhood of $10,000-$12,000! I talking about rims, lift kits, Navi radios, lights, interior dash mods, step bars, wind/window delflectors, bumper guards, roof carrying assemblies, skid plates, off road lighting, etc...etc! 10k-12k....<---I am dead serious about this price area!

Love the way it drives, HATED the fact that it did not come with the stain guard for the cloth interior, and that it was a option for $200, and that they did not tell me until I had already signed most of the paperwork. Thought that was a little bit of a douche move on their part. I guess the point came across when we said screw it and got up to leave (after beign there at 10PM and the dealer closes at 9 with thier finance department waiting). Remarkably, they came down to $100. It was not the price (drop in the bucket overall), but the fact that it was withheld until the very end. Tainted my whole buying experience.

Love the ride though.

That can easily be done by you aftermarket and much cheaper.

I did not hold out, but was very pissed. Left a bad taste because the leather upgrade is only 1300 more. ( I did not want leather). I talked to some other people that bought their car from the same place, and they told me the same story. Some BS about people did not like the Scotch guard because of some allergy BS.

Biggest problem is the 'Wish I had one' looks from all those poor individuals stuck driving Trail Grazers, Exploders, and Heeps and the other so called SUVs you will be subjected to every day.

Congrats on your new 4Runner! You have made one of the best decisions possible regarding an SUV. I know that you will be pleased.

I have had my '05 just shy of a year now and totally love it. Of course, I still have less than 9,000 miles on it because it is my "weekend" car and I have my beater Sentra to use for commuting.

I took my 4Runner to upstate NY and then to Michigan, and it was a fantastic vehicle for a long trip. The only bad part is having to put so much gas in the tank!! Even with a V-6, it is not easy to break the 20 mpg barrier when you have a lead foot.

After about 5,000 miles on the odometer, switch to Mobil-1 synthetic oil and the Toyota will last a long, long time.
