Last weekend I had a friend help me install a 3" ToyTec lift taken off a 5th gen 4Runner I bought from a guy on Craigslist. The front strut lower bolt hole was too wide for the section of frame it was supposed to fit in, so we had to use a grinder, but it didn't take much. The rear shocks he gave me are too short, so I've ordered RevTek R2515S shock absorbers.
My next purchase will be larger tires. I have OE size 265/65/17s on the 6 lug 7.5X17 wheels, and I'm looking to throw on some Kenda Kleaver 255/75/17 M/T tires soon.
A question I have is what is the tallest tire I can fit on those rims with my new suspension, and what is the conversion of that size in inches, like a 31, 32, or 33?
Almost forgot, any suggestions for plugs and wires re: a tune-up?

Welcome! Nice to see someone else using the 255/75/17 tires! I think the largest you can reliably use on the stock wheels would be a 285/70/17 which would be about a 33x11.5. With the v8 you could probably go that bigger size without a power problem. I went with the 255/75 because it was next to nothing ($200) for a new set off of a 2012 wrangler and the gearing with a 32" tire was just bearable enough with my sad 3.4L. Hope that helps!

Welcome, I run 285/70/17's without any issues after fixing the usual rubbing issues. I do still rub on the trail when stuffed but that's it.

Do a search for every post by ARK SWAMP RIDER. Read them, study them and then you will know everything you want to know about 4th Gen lifts and tire fitment, The man has written a ton of good info on this forum.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still wondering if the 255/75/17 set up won't be much taller than what I already have on there. I could go 265/70/17, but that's barely taller. I don't really want wider tires, just taller, so I'm trying to figure all this sizing out. My buddy has a 3rd gen with 235s and commented how I could do a taller tire if it was skinnier so it would turn through the wheel well, hence me looking at the 255s. He also used the analogy of riding on a mountain bike tire vs street bike tire; skinnier rides quicker with better gas mileage.

Yea it's a tough call, I still think the 285 will look the best for sure but I really like how the 255's are for every day and maintaining good power and mpg. You could maybe split the difference and get a 285 all terrain instead of m/t.

Word. Since 90% will be on pavement, probably gonna go with the 255s. I found some cheaply priced, the Kenda Klever MT, 255/75/17 for $130 a pop, but after I'd purchased them I get an email saying sorry, they didn't have those in stock. So I've replied asking if they'll do the $40 more expensive/tire 265/70/17 for the same price. Thank for all the help.
