Now I may be new here but it seems there are a few threads with people installing HIDs onto their 4Runners...
From what I can tell newer models of 4Runners have HID headlights stock... but with the 3rd Gen crowd it seems you are all installing HIDs into Halogen housings.
This is not only illegal but very very dangerous... The proper way to have HIDs on a vehical that wasn't sold with them stock is to either purchase aftermarket headlights that are made for HIDs, or retrofit a set of projectors into a halogen housing.
An HID bulb is so much brighter than a halogen and is made to be cut off half way and then sent through a projector to focus and point the light beam in the correct direction.
A halogen bulb is usually stuck into a half circle that is chromed to bounce the light thats going all around the bulb forward in front of the car. This is alright because a halogen bulb in comparison to an HID is very weak. So only when someone has their high beams on it hurts your eyes.
So when you put an HID into a halogen housing, its taking all that light that it puts out and shooting it everywhere to blind anyone withing 1000 feet of your vehical. Not only is that bad it will melt your housing in no time since the plastic thats used for halogen housings isn't made to hold up under that much heat.
I don't mean to sit here and say you are all doing it wrong, because its your car and you can do what you want to it. I believe in upgrading your vehical properly and safetly for you and everyone on the road.
