I think the FX should fit with minimal mod and believe the TSX/S2K projectors should fit in the 4Runner as well. I think our 4Runner's project is identical to the 07 Camry & 04+ Solara. Maybe GX/LX also uses the same projector.

how about go buy a 03-05 4Runner headlight to text out the retrofit? it should fit since someone on this forum already purchase an 06 headlight set and put it on his 04 or is it 05?

yes, 4R projectors are very similar with camry's and 06 MDXs. if you look at RX non-asf, they have similar bolt on holes on the mount, which are very easy to fit into our 06+ housing. but on FX, TSX/S2K, they dont have proper mounting holes and require more fab. and modification onto our housing.

03-05 bottom part of the housing are flat, but 06+ have step, which make the difficulty to put older year back into newer year. also some light wiring are different in 03 vs 06. i emailed a few retrofitter and they haven't deal with 06 housing yet. hope i can have more info gather from hidplanet.com please update with me if you find out anything new about retro, either post reply here or PM me would be great.

Additionally, the 2003-05 headlights have a corner that enters into the grille space for the 2006. It would not be as simple as it is for 2003-05 4Runners to swap to 2006+ headlights with just the housings, wiring and trim piece because of the different grille shape, a grille swap maybe required too. A retrofit is definately easier than a housing swap for a 2006+ 4Runner.

i have the 03 to 06 retro and it does have a gap. was worth it due to the hids i got as well.


I just wanted to know if you think that total removal of the metal tab was worth it. I just want it better and a little tape and time wouldn't bother me. i have bent it and it does make a difference.

i only removed one side metal tab, the other side remain bent. it didn't make a difference, but if you want to bend the shield forward to the bulb (which can create more color on the cut-off), then def. you need to snap the metal piece off in order to do it. i am going to take some new pictures tonight and possible to put up a new thread in the "gallery". i would stay where i am at for now, next step would be a Valeo or FX projector retro. but i am pretty satisfy with the output at this moment.

i honestly don't know, and don't want to try out unless some experts have confirmed. due to the size of LS, it attached with shroud, so i don't want to take a risk to cut the OEM shroud. here is the post from hidplanet.com and this expert did LS retro into his Highlander.

did you check the gallery section, i posted updated pictures there also. if i really want to retro, i may end up getting TSX or S2K, these are the single xenon with high output so far. still deciding on retro or not. go take a look at my gallery post and see what you think.

Yeah I saw the pictures you posted, they look okay. By the way I ordered a pair of spare headlights and I will do a retrofit with my buddy. Do you know the exact dimensions for all those projectors? LS430, S2K, TSX, RX330?
I believe our oem projector is 2.5" in diameter. I do prefer to drop in the LS430 or S2K but they are pricey!
Keep each other updated to make this to be the first 06+ 4Runner to get retrofitted =)

how much did you pay for the housing? i got quoted from dealership for $586 a pair with tax. that sounds a little too much for me, that's not including the retro cost, so end up will have to spend a thousand. that's seems too much unless i can find some decent cost OEM housing.

really??????? i found some on ebay but they were all broken tap, still asking for at least $80 per side. you are so lucky!!! well, what are you going to do with your spare pair now?? let me know if you are willing to spare them out

i think the one i got also have broken taps, but i think it should be ok or can be fixed easily. since my buddy have the ls430, tsx, rx330 and fx laying around i will try to see which one will fit best once we get the headlight baked.

keep me update on your project!!! i would like to know how hard/easy on 06+ housing. also let me know if you are going to have extra housing.

I ordered some Hid's and thought about doing the the Black headlight mod on my 2006 4runner like I did on my 08 tundra CM .

I have a question regarding the OP's mod for the squirrel cage effect .

Since I'll have the whole lens apart , should I just break off those tabs and use metal tape ?

Or should I just do the bend ?


I'm new to the 4runner modding , but I modded the heck out of my Tundra an am anxiously looking forward to learnning all I can about my 4Runner .

I have gotten everything installed, but the harness (MotoControl Bi-Xenon: H4/9003) they recommended has an OEM connector that look the one in the picture below. It's a H4/9003 connector while the headlights are 9006 for the low beams. Does anyone know how I'm supposed to install this? Did TRS recommend the wrong wiring harness?

You have the wrong harness. Since your factory bulbs are 9006 and 9005 you need to get the harness that says it fits 9005/9006/9012/H10

The harness is supposed to fit the factory plug just as a plug and play. There will be no modifying anything.

In other words, the OEM harness that comes from the factory into the headlights will plug into that wiring harness, if the plugs are different and you can’t plug the OEM harness into TRS one, the harness is the wrong one.

wrong harness, but to make it work, the top is the low input, the blue is the high input and the other side is the ground.

you need the standard 9006 harness.
even if you have the 06-09 model, they give you an h11 to 9006 adapter, but the harness is actually standard 9006.

Now I have another question. So today was the first day my recently retrofitted headlights were exposed to rain and one of the headlights started fogging as seen in the images below. Does anyone have any recommendation as to how I can seal the headlights better?
