HID's $60

After some research, I installed some HID bulbs on the 4Runner this weekend. I dove into other forums and they suggested HIDmasters (HIDmasters) had the best bang for the buck. Apparently, it's the exact same product as DDM's but much cheaper. I bought the basic package (H11's, 6000K with full sized ballasts). Simple plug and play. The HID harness snaps into the OEM harness. I paid $60. The light is bluer than I would like and the pattern seems more scattered than the regular bulbs but for $60 I am pretty happy.

Yep. Illegal and irresponsible. Especially in a vehicle where the lights are as high as they are in the 4Runner.

Either pony up for the real thing (projectors) or stay with normal bulbs.

It is actually very different from "slapping" Sylvanias in there. Halogen bulbs will still maintain the appropriate cut-off.

all I can say is, "You get what you pay for". If I were a betting man, I would throw a $20 on a bet that says that you probably decreased your "effective lighting" with those lights. First off... just based on the pic, those look like probably 6000K (***edit*** just read the OP, they are 6000k) temp lights... Anything past about 4000-4300 does nothing but decrease the effectiveness of the light. Second, those cheap HID kits have horrible beam patterns, the glare thrown off to other drivers and on coming traffic is probably close to blinding.

Might wanna re-think this one.

So, you researched, and still bought 6000K? And they're bluer than you like?

You researched, and find your light is more scattered than the halogens?

The "cheap" factor isn't the problem. It's the mod itself. You've actually decreased lighting performance on your own ride while making it miserable for others to be in front of your ride. The cheapness is just the cherry on top. Congratulations. It's the trifecta of failure. :trophy:

I don't think you should remove them. You should retro them with projectors! :guitar3:

I bought some HIDs and threw them in, got a few high beams & blinded people. Right angle and scenario will put someone is a very bad situation... So I ended up retrofitting my headlights instead because I love how much light output there is. And I went with 4300k, looks a lot better IMHO.

Also, I read somewhere that 4300k is suppose to produce the max light output.
