HID's $60

No disagreement regarding the lighting performance and the impact on others... but is there something inherently wrong with trying an inexpensive mod? Or, would you have been any more approving of this change had it cost $600 instead of $60? I personally think it is great to find inexpensive methods to make improvements. One of my favorite mods is Antman's Ikea headboard storage shelf... and it doesn't get much cheaper than using something otherwise headed to the dump.

It is important that there is actually an improvement, which is questionable (at best) here... The "cheapness" isn't the problem. The problem is that the acceptable HID mods are not cheap.

Nothing is inherently wrong with an inexpensive mod.

However, taking the cheap way out and failing in the process is what I wanted to bring attention to.

I must admit though, if this "mod" cost the OP $600, I would've laughed uncontrollably.

No argument. I just think "failing" is failing, regardless of the cost. I just focus on the end result meeting expectations and desires, and all the better if it can be done "cheaply."

Agreed - if you can achieve your goal safely and effectively and do so while saving a few bucks, by all means go right ahead and share your conquest here with the rest of us.

I think the point is that is it WELL documented that these cheapy HID kits do nothing to increase night time visibility and actually can be dangerous to yourself and other drivers. It would be a little different if the OP was a pioneer in the HID replacement game and was one of the first 5th gen owners to plug one of those kits in, but this isn't the case. Just my opinion.

You have to pay to play, and if you can't afford to do it properly or come up with a cheaper yet safe, effective alternative, it's best to save your money for something else. As a driver, you can't just do anything you want on the road. You have a responsibility to be safe and courteous to others. The OP and others who follow his path are obviously unaware of this or just don't care.
