Hilux 167 snorkel for 3rd gens

You're supposed to apply Por15 to rusted metal, not bare metal.

If you have clean bare metal you can get POR-15's etching product to season it. It comes in a spray bottle, they also have a pretty wicked degreaser.

Basically it doesn't have to be rusted, it just needs something to grab onto, even rough sanding the area should be enough. That's what they tell you to do between coats anyhow.

What if you've already converted to a cool air intake, is the original box for the air filter necessary for this kit or can you just attach it to where the CAI filter would be?

Bit confused. "Cool Air Intake"? You mean like a K&N Intake kit? I had one and once I converted back to original airbox and the snorkel my intake temps dropped up to 12* in some cases.

If your current setup has an open filter setup, are you adding the snorkel just for looks or to try to supply cleaner air to your current setup?

Looking at your earlier post answered my question, yes I do have the K&N right now, the cone shapes open filter & I want it to be functional, water proof etc. so I'm gonna have to hit the scrapyard to find a stock air filter housing since I sold mine 3 years ago. Haha

Just got back from camping. Now that the weather is getting cool, my intake temps were in the high 20's - low 30's. With my K&N they were always in the 60's and higher. Not too shabby....

Also curious if the CBI ditch light brackets will work with 167 hilux snorkel. I already have the snorkel but thinking about ordering some ditch light brackets and moving my rigid dually lights from the bumper if they will fit.

From pictures from earlier it looks like they are fine together. I have giant Hella 500FF on my ditch brackets and JUST ordered my snorkel so I'll post pics after my install.


My estimated delivery is March 1-16th. I can't wait!!

Due to a lot wet lands in NJ, there are a lot of water crossings. I'm really interested in this. So I have few questions. With his installed. If you go into water and the water splashes over the hood, over the intake box. Are you still safe ? I didn't read every page. So is the air intake all good ? It doesn't mess anything up with ECU ? and do I really have to drill holes into my pillar ?

Need straight answer from people with this snorkel. Should you be worried driving in the rain with the head facing forward ? Or should the head be turned backwards ? My biggest concern is that this head isn't design like arb head. Like for when it rains. Is it a must to drill into your pillar to mount the snorkel ?

Can confirm the head on this snorkel is designed like the Safari model, because I have both, but they have a different diameter so I couldn't use my Safari head. About a month after I installed it I ended up driving about 12 miles through a massive downpour at highway speeds and the four drain slots around the head work as intended. I was curious so I pulled over and checked the air filter and this was the tiny amount of water that made it to the airbox.

Got it installed

I think i still have a knot in my gut from the massive hole I cut into my fender, but the end result left me very happy.

I had no problems with anything until I had to put the rubber hose onto the air box, THAT SUCKED!! Here a re a few shots.

So the solution for the rubber hose collapsing. Is to either put metal mesh inside. Or use a hard

Has anyone used a coolant hose or a pvc for the rubber part that people say it collapses under acceleration?
