Great pictures. In my youth after college, I caught tropic fish in Key West for about 2 years. I always felt kind of guilty catching nemo and taking him away from his home.

...unless the arowana grows extremely fast, i doubt that the cichlids can fit in their mouth.

yes it will , i woke up one morning just to find out that my Electric Blue Cichlid became an expensive feeder for my Silver Arowana. They were friends when the arowana was only 6 inch long, and i was able to grow my silver arowana to 27 inches.

i miss my silver arowana.

My australian arowana (5") was housed with 3 albino oscars (2.5"). Within 6 months, all of them were getting bigger but the arowana was edging them out. The arowana was trying to eat the oscars. Ended up returning the oscars for store credit.

I've been keeping Cichlids for years. I have two tanks. This is my show tank. It's 8 ft. 240 gallons. I have 13 large African Zaire Frontosas and a variety of African Peacocks and Tanganyika's. I service the tank weekly myself. My filtering system consists of 2 Fluval 404 cannisters and 2 Rio 1700 Powerhead attached to 4 chamber sponge filters. 25% water changes weekly. Feeding a combination of flake, krill, and mysis keeps everyone happy.

it jumped even when the glass lid cover is closed, i didnt put some weight on top. i underestimated my 27" silver arowana's power.

after the jump, he lived for another 4 days and just died, friends said, it may have broken his back bone. she fell about 6 ft. high.

Thai, for now they will get along (cichlids and silver) silver just eat whatever fits on their mouth, as they are better alone in the tank, on the picture i have a 14" clown knife fish, my silver stated picking on her little by little, and later killed it. dont starve your silver when they are as big as mine.

i might start again on another silver arowana.

I also keep cichlids. I have been keeping africans for about three years now.

My african tank. 55 gal.

My Jack Dempsey tank. 55 gal.

My pictures are not too good. Still horrible ta aquarium photography.

The arowanas grow fast. They will eat everything.

Here is my 10-gallon tank in my kitchen: (basic equipment, including AquaTech 10-20 gallon filter, which was upgraded from original Walmart equipment)

Fishes: Platys (5), Angel Fish (2), and Cloud fish (2)

Next to the tank (partly in picture) is my small Beta fish container.

Just a FYI, those angelfish are going to get way too big for that aquarium, and are already very close to being to big. They get about 8" tall and 6" long and should be kept in no less than a 4' tank. Maybe you already knew that, but I figured if you did you would not do that to the fish.

Also, you should read up on the proper way to keep betas. I know they are sold in those small containers and are said to be kept in those small containers, but that is really not healthy for them either. They should be kept in a minimum of 3 gallons filtered with the heat being around 80 degrees.

Nice tanks guys! My mom had a 155 gal freshwater with some bala sharks, tiger barbs, and some other crap I cant remember, and a plucaustamous (sp???)

Had the tank for, oh, 10 years or more, when one night it just split wide open down the whole front. Glass stayed intact, but she had to put all the fish into pots and pans, and siphon the water out as fast as possible, and tried to tape up the crack in the glass to stop the water leakage. It was spraying directly onto the surround sound tower where all their electronics were!!

Thus, NO MORE FISHTANK!!!

We had a small one, but I hate cleaning them, so we ditched it soon after.

The angelfish, i agree with you. When they get a little bigger, then we will definitely find a bigger home. As for the Beta, he seems to be happy in his beta-specific home. He doesn't do much anyway...lazy fish!
