Homelink question

Researching new 4Runners, and one option I like is homelink for the garage door. I've noticed on dealer websites, some are listed with it, some without. We're looking at SR5 Premium, or Trail Premium (haven't decided yet). I don't recall seeing it as available on these models in the Toyota literature. Are these aftermarket, is there a special package these can be ordered with (if so, what is its code so I can look for it), or are the ads just wrong?

Homelink is available as an "after market" add on as well.....either through vehicle visor or rear view mirror. They also used to offer a 3 button remote, but I don't think they do anymore.

That said, consider this idea too: A common occurrence these days with car thieves is to steal the car from a parking lot, and then check the registration and drive to the address. If you have a programmed homelink in the vehicle, then can now rob your home at the same time they stole your car. A better idea is to carry your garage door remote as a key fob, and not in your car. Just a thought. Homelink is very handy, but definitely adds a risk element if your car gets stolen.
 
Thanks for the responses. We are looking at 2014, and as Americas High Five mentioned, it's not listed in the brochure as available for anything but the Limited. Yet Lexusbstrdchild has one in his 14 TE.

We test drove an SR5 Prem. and I didn't see homelink buttons in it. Yet I see it advertised sometimes in the vehicle features online. Wondered if someone was just lazy and copy/pasted the Limited features on the other models.

The theft issue is a good point, but my thinking is that if they're going to steal my car with the intention of looking for my address to go rob me, they'll just break a window to get in if they don't find a garage opener (in either case our home alarm would be activated). Also, when we go out of town for any length of time (even a weekend) I activate the lock on the garage door opener from inside - this won't allow the door to open even if you push the wall mounted button inside.

Don't most of those online listings have some sort of disclaimer at the bottom stating the information provided may not be 100% accurate? I always assumed this was so they wouldn't pigeon-hole themselves on the pricing of the vehicle but maybe now they are trying to draw attention from those interested in HomeLink?
 
I thought of those disclaimers too, but sometimes it seems dealers can get packages not advertised to the general public.

Maybe I'm just wishful thinking. I will consider aftermarket if I have to. It's not a dealbreaker, but if I can get it from factory (or dealer installed) prior to taking delivery, I'd rather go that route.
 
The mirror with homelink can be added to any. I have a base sr5 '14 and added the homelink mirror. Same factory look easy to do, forum search will yield pics. The dealer will also install for you. Mirror is approx $200 on amazon depending if you add temp sensor and or compass to it. I was skeptical but compared to my wife's Lexus it looks like the same product.
 
I can confirm what Lexusbstrdchild said, we have a new TEP and I have the Homelink on mine. I was bummed because it didn't show available on the website, but when I got in the truck for the test drive there it was.

Cool thing is there are actually three buttons so you can program multiple doors.
 
I thought HomeLink was standard with all 2014 4Runner premium models. I also have a 2014 TEP and it came with HomeLink. It must be programed (learned) to link with HomeLink capable devices (ie garage/gate opener) wilrelessly so no code to enter. Instruction are in the owner's manual or other HomeLink devices. You can google HomeLink to be sure.

I bet these are port installed mirrors with HomeLink. LTD's are the only model with factory installed HomeLink buttons on the overhead console, not the rv mirror.
 
Good to know. Sounds like it could be hit or miss if it's a "port installed" option. Glad to hear the aftermarket is a decent piece if I need to go that route.

They are not on the mirrors but in fact are the factory HomeLink buttons on the overhead console just like the LTDs.:D

If they were indeed port installed, this is good news to the OP! The dealers can install them for him.
