Homemade Solar Shower

I have been wanting to install a Solar Shower after seeing a product online called the Road Shower. When I saw the road shower and the fact that it cost $300 I was sure there was a way to do it cheaper. Here is the simplest Solar Shower you can make and cost well under $100.

I'm not sure how much water it holds but I think it's over 5gal. I know it's plenty to take a shower. It doesn't hold air for long but I keep the little Viair compressor hooked up while in use and all is well. I'm very happy with this install and know it will be a game changer when Camping. Below is what I used

4"x5' ABS Tube (because it's already black)
1 45 degree
1 90 degree
2 couplers with caps
1 tire valve
1 valve
1 6ft hose
1 spray nozzle
1 6pack 7in stainless steel screw clamps
Silicone
Drill bits for hose valve and tire valve

And

6 pack of Bud Light!!

Thanks!! It seems like it holds more, I have a five gallon water jug that seems to fill quicker. None the less though it should be plenty for my wife and I to take a shower

Nice! Have you rOad-tested it already? How many hours on a sunny day did it take to warm it up so it stays comfortably-warm until water is used up?

Not road tested in the sense that tested it while Camping. As far as fitment I have road tested at 80+mph and it does great, I may re attach it differently to get rid of some slight rattling.

I would not trust those hose clamps for the long haul. You would be better served with U clamps. Thread some rubber tubing over the U clamp first and get better grip (and black hose would make it blend in).
 
I saw similar things mounted to trucks in costa rica. Surfers would fill them with clean water, and then after they came in, they would have a warm water to rinse. Looked like a great idea.
 
Were you able to clear up the leak?? I'm looking at the valve and have been hunting around the local home center for something with a longer threaded section. I think using it as a "bulkhead" with a pair of gaskets and washers might be simpler. I've used this kind of setup on a variety of cookpots (home brewing) but that's a steel container, not plastic.

Also....for added capacity maybe go with a "U" shape with the open end facing the back of the vehicle, wrapping around the roof rack. There are limitless options....plastic pipe is some really versatile stuff.

Do you have a link with this type of setup on something? Why should I not trust the hose clamps??

No because it's not airtight. From what I understand this setup should hold up to 100psi I figure if anything I would let the air out through the Schrader valve like letting down tire pressure

So today I decided that I would try the shower out. So in the backyard balls out I get all soapy and boom run out of water!! I thought for sure that the water would be plenty, after further investigation I really believe that it was not full but I never checked (like a moron) anyways, I'm off tomorrow so I'll be making another trip to do a couple things. 1 change fill point to eliminate the 90° agle and make it about 2ft longer hopefully so that it holds more water. Fix the faucet where it leaks. Stay tuned
