Anyone have the AVS aero skin on there 4runner ? Any info out there.

I installed an AVS model number 25053 just over a month ago before an off road trip to the desert. I really like the looks and fit. I went for it after seeing member Saker’s build. I like his style and he always has quality mods. On black it really blends in well. Here’s mine.

I had the AVS on for a few months, not because I like the way it looks, but after several paint chips on the hood leading edge and two windshield repairs. I figured it couldn't hurt. Alas, it rubbed paint off the top edge of the grill garnish below it so in the garbage it went.

Hey TRD panther, It’s hard to tell by the pic is that the one that gets attached with 3 m tape and lays flat on the hood. I think the other guy below is complaining about the one that stick up. I’m looking at the aero skin which lays flat. Thanks .

It is a bolt on. 10 minutes. I put the 4 small protective bumpers on the inside of the deflector instead of on the paint. Mine stays off the paint and is the highest profile of the AVS deflector. The 23071 is a low to mid rise style and mounts the same way. Regardless, I really like the look and fit. It was only $47 with free shipping from Amazon Prime. I think it would look nice on your MGM. It is very dark smoke.

The Q&A states that this has worked for up to 2020 models. Mine is a 2019. Will post with pics once it arrives.
I do believe in the value of bug deflectors. I added one to a Sienna minivan and the number of little rock chips went down dramatically over 30k miles of driving.

Mine was the low profile bolt on. It stays away from the hood paint on the inside surface of the protector, but rubs on the grill from the bottom, outer surface.

Edit: For clarification, mine was model 23071

Mine is a AVS Hood Deflector 23071.
Considered a medium profile by AVS. I like mine it’s lower that the OEM I had on my 2014.

TRD Panther, have you noticed any rubbing of the paint on the top part of your grill where the bottom of the hood protector could come in contact with the top part of the painted grill? I am going to purchase and install the AVS, but am waiting until warmer weather because I plan to install a small strip of PPF on top of the grill to protect it from the hood protector. Thanks.

I have not noticed any rubbing at all. If it does and I don’t see it unless I take it off, it wouldn’t bother me as I would always have one.

Just put on my Weathertech today ........ JUNK

First off, they shipped it loose in a large box without padding so it was just banging around in there. Naturally it was scuffed / scratched up probably because of the shipping but I could get past the scuffs, I would have lived with it.

Installed it and noticed that the left top middle was warped up, looked like a wave on the ocean, then I shined my flashlight between the hood and the front grill, also saw that screws were making contact with the top of the headlights and front grill paint. I tried adjusting the hood stoppers but no luck unless I wanted a large weird gap.

To Weathertech's credit, they responded to my email within 1 hour on a Saturday and gave me a return shipping label. Only downside is they only mentioned refunding the price plus tax, not the initial shipping I paid which was $20.

Over 5 years with my AVS unit on and it’s held up perfectly. It may have faded slightly in that time but marginally at best.

I also have the AVS 25053. I put a bit of PPF wrapped around the leading edge of the hood, and the back edge of the grille where I was concerned the deflector might make contact with it. I don't think it was necessary, as it doesn't seem to make contact with either the hood leading edge, or the back edge of the grille.

I did not install the little bumpers, as it never has come close to contacting the top of the hood. Even driving briefly at 90 mph (speed limit 80), it doesn't appear to move at all.

Overall I'm pleased with it, adds a bit of protection from rock chips, might deflect a few bugs, and it blends in well on my Nautical Blue 4Runner.

I just installed my oem Toyota one and it’s way lower profile than this.. this is super bulky and not stream lined.. I LOVE MY TOYOTA one!! Can post pics if anyone cares tomorrow or so..

I had an OEM on my 2014, it wasn’t “way” lower profile, if at all IMHO, this one isn’t “super” bulky..... and btw, it is streamlined, maybe it’s the side angle.
Any you will love how the metal brackets eat through the Mylar strips and right into your hood paint!

Any you will love how the metal brackets eat through the Mylar strips and right into your hood paint!

That doesn’t look like the OEM Toyota deflectors I’ve seen or the one I had on my 2014. On mine, I could pass a wash mitt ( with my hand inside ) between the hood and the deflector without issue!
Are you sure it’s an original Toyota?
If so, they have obviously changed something.
Does it still have the metal brackets that fasten it to the hood?

I’ve had the Weathertech on for over a year with no issues. It fits great and installed in minutes.

I told you! You didn’t believe me this one way nicer and way lower profile than yours.. 100% oem Toyota from dealership.! And yes to the metal brackets, should be ok though.. some ppf prior to install should be good..
