How Do Bilstein Shocks Provide Lift?

Yes, this is true for me - 0.85. I needed a 1.75in lift to level mine out so I first installed it with the 1.5" (3rd) setting and found the front ended up looking just a bit higher - seemed to go up more like 2.5". You can see from dougiefreshmx's pic that from that angle it seems the front a tad higher. So I ended up changing it to the 2nd setting 0.85 and it did level it to within 0.5" of the rears until, but when I install airbags in the rear coils it raised it another 0.25". For me the actual lift on the 0.85" setting was more like closer to 1.5". For me I like to have the rear just a bit higher so when I have passengers, cargo or accelerating, it is level.

Intrigued with this. You say .85 gave you around 1.5? Hmm.. I'm considering Bilsteins, but now you've got me wondering which setting to go with... I'll do a search for like ''bilstein .85 actual'' or something and see if others are seeing the same.

Anyone else reading this post go with the .85 and got something different/higher?

I think its similar to the fj coils, how much lift depends on which engine you have and if your 4wd. Worth my v8 4wd, I got right at their numbers on the third notch.

K cause I'm plannin on goin with Billies set at .85 + the 1/2'' (1'' net) topout spacer to end up rouund 1.85 give or take + 1'' rear spacer I just hope I don't end up 2.5+ in front!

Rationale for front is to combine topout/preload to avoid compressing the coil as much as the 1.75 billies would be.

I'm glad this thread came up, I was gonna post up asking the same kind of question. I'm looking at a set of 5100 to level me out and ditch XREAS. I think I won't install any new springs right now, just use OEM. i'm not so concerned about additional load capacity yet. and i'm going to run 255/70/17 tires, which is barely over 31" anyways.

i think i'll do the daystar rear 1.5" budget boost. so for the fronts i'd have to set it on the 3rd or top clip, then? the 3rd is 1.75"..

it's also possible that may be too much lift with the relatively small tires. in that case i could just go 2nd clip on the front to level it and leave it there.

opinions?

If you do get the rear daystar budget lift, I'd definatley bring it up to the 3rd clip or 1.75. But if you just want to level it out for now, you could just get the 5100s and set them at the 2nd clip or .85 and leave the rear alone. Truck looks good btw!

What makes it worse, on my T4R, is that when the wheel gap is equal from front to rear (used a jack to the front of the vehicle), the factory Ltd running boards are higher in the front.

Bringing this up again, only to tag on a bit of info for do it yourselfers....

I installed Daystar topouts on all four corners last year, and decided to wait on shocks until this year.

Just got the two front adj Bilstein 5100s via mailorder, and decided to let local tire shop install, I had enough busted knuckles from the Daystars. Still waiting on backordered rear shocks.

They just called me, all done, but...."uh...its sitting a little high in the front... "

Get there to find the metal cups at the bottom of the springs are upside down, and the front end is doing a wheelie ! LOL

I was very careful this morning when dropping off to make SURE an experienced guy was doing this, here's the box, here's the one page instructions, circlip already set on lowest setting since I have topouts already, yada yada. We talked about it carefully.

Then I find out they let a newbie install it with "supervision" from the 1st guy. UGH!

They'll turn the metal cups around and I'll get it back tomorrow. I was planning all along to do the rears myself, that's easy.

Moral of story, make sure those metal cups are right before you bolt it all up! eace:
