Alright, this is my first post here and basically I just want to know how badly we got taken for a ride. First off, let me say I’m stoked to be a 4Runner owner and can’t wait to drive it. But I think my wife may have bought it impulsively and we probably got screwed. I’m in the military and deployed overseas, she is at home in Tampa.
The 4Runner is a 2018 Limited 4 x 2 (I know, I know. But the wife didn’t care about 4 wheel drive).
Options:
Automatic running boards... $1500
Carpet mats... $329
Clear paint protection... $199
Leather trim 50/50 split fold/flat seats... $1365
Toyoguard... $699
I’m not sure if I’m actually seeing the whole options sheet because it has navigation and I thought that was an option.
MSRP before options... $42,725
Subtotal... $46,757
Total plus dealer fees... $47,752
Total she paid... $45,963? I can’t remember. But I think that was it.
Here’s another factor. They gave us $11,300 ish for our trade-in, a dumpster-fire 2012 V6 Camaro which is absolutely not worth that much. It needed tons of work done on it.
Anyway, had I been there this whole process would have gone a lot differently. I think some dealerships in military towns know how to take advantage of the service members and spouses when they come in and don’t know much about buying a car. And my wife is too proud to ask me for help and she also thinks I’m too busy over here to worry about money-related stuff, which is partially true.
So yeah, any opinions on how badly we got hosed?
