How much did you pay for your TE?

I'm most likely picking up a 2012 trail edition this week and I need your help in what I should pay. If purchased from longo Toyota in California it would help a lot also.

I paid a little less than 40k for mine back in April near Sacramento CA. I had been looking for a TE with KDSS and navigation for months. They are kind of hard to find around here and the dealers know that if they get one it will sell fast.

I maybe could have done a little better on price, but I am happy to have found one, and I bought it on the spot when I finally found a dealer that had one. (it had only been on the lot a few hours)

I visited longo yesterday and they have about 5 TEs. All have navigation and KDSS. I got a rough subtotal of $43,000. Thought that was kind of high. Help me fight the dealer to get the best price possible!!!

That's too high. I paid 36.5.in 2010, otd from elmore in oc. I think peeps are paying around 37k. Mines a kdss no nav.

4 of them are 2012's and I think you can knock down a bit on a left over 2012 I would assume.

I'm looking to purchase a 2012 TE as well and hoping for a good deal. My local dealer has 2 TE, both with KDSS, one has nav. A dealer 2 hrs away has a 2012 TE as well with KDSS and nav, MSRP of $40,500 and they have an internet sale price of $38,500. Invoice for this is probably around $37,200 with nav and KDSS, and $36,200 for KDSS no nav. So I think for a 2012, you should be getting invoice or better, and thats what I'm going to shoot for. If they arent willing to go at least invoice or better, then I will get a 2013, because a 2012 is essentially a 1 yr old car the minute you drive it off the lot.

$43,000 is definitely way too high. The MSRP of the vehicle I ordered (TE w/KDSS & Nav) was $40,056. Unless they are adding on every dealer installed accessory on top of it (like TRD wheels, running boards, etc) then that's a ripoff. I don't have the receipt in front of me but I signed for just over $37,000, and I was told it was $700 under invoice.

Don't have it yet but the signatures are there, the deposit down, and the order in. Oh, and apparently they finished building it Thursday (10/11/12, oh the irony!) Can't wait for it to get here :hungry:

The numbers I wrote down yesterday. For a 2012 black TE with KDSS and nav.

List price = $40,535
Sell price = $39,298
Tax at 8.75% = $3445.58
Subtotal came out to $43,216

How exactly can I get the dealership to sell me the 4runner for around $37k as other people are saying they got it for?

Ah, you didn't mention that was the OTD price. My $37,000 quote was not including tax. With tax, registration, and plates I'm back to just over $40,500 (tax in CT is 6.5%). Also, looks like the MSRP my dealership gave me was before the 2013 price hike, even though they are shipping me a 2013 model.

For the $700 under invoice, I went through my local AAA chapter. The guys at the dealership said (at the time) it was more about volume of sales than the actual value of the sales. I suppose that's true of any dealership with new vehicles - they make their money on used sales, not new sales.

Start with a reasonable offer, and stick to it. Be as patient as you need to be to get it at your price. Be willing to walk out.

My advice is don't get too caught up with the numbers game and just pay whatever you are comfortable with and seems reasonable to YOU. If you start comparing too much with other people you're just going to drive yourself nuts.

There's too many factors with asking everyone else what they are paying...ie. locality, financing or not financing, trading in or not trading in, etc.

For example someone can be getting a "killer" deal with a 10% interest rate for their 60 month financing package from the dealer, while another guy pays cash and get's an "ok" price. Who's the one making off better in the end?

Or another scenario to consider is, a guy getting a great price on the new truck yet getting raped on their trade in.

And of course there's also locality to consider, as you can see some regions have plenty TEs w/ KDSS sitting on the lot, while there are others like mine where there's only 1 TE w/ KDSS in stock within a 100 mile radius.

To me I rather just be content with what I purchased without wasting too much of my time searching and negotiating till the cows come home, rather than getting the absolute best price known to man. Of course that's just my opinion.

a little advice on buying any cars in Cali, don't just go into dealer and asking for the price. go online and pick up at least 4 dealers then let them compete each others. most Cali car dealers have internet department. you'll knock off $3k off of sticker price easely. otherwise, they'll treat you as a noob. (in other words, they'll rip you off)

longo is by far the worst Toyota dealer I've ever dealt with.

I agree, when I bought mine, I paid what I paid and was comfortable with my decision. Yes I probably could have eventually found one for a few hundred less, but I am happy with my TE and am getting good use out of it so it really does not matter now.

Beside that, I saved the $800 or so that it would have cost to have the front differential rebuilt again (would have been the 4th time) on my trade in.

Not sure if this will be of interest, but I live in Boston and just switched careers, they gave me a company car and I am now FORCED UNWILLINGLY to sell my 2011 Silver TE, it's well set up too. It has 25,200 miles and is perfect. I'd like to get 32,000 but for a member i'd be willing to deal a bit. I don't want to let it go but city living dictates one car only. let me know. Image 7.jpg

nice price. would take you up on it if it was a 2012. i have thing about even numbers

I got mine for around 36.5k. It was around 800 over invoice for the one with Nav but no KDSS. But times were different when I bought mine just over a year ago - this was after the tsunami - there was barely a TE to be found anywhere in California and I couldn't wait the 8 months everyone had to wait before we saw any 2012's on the lots. No dealer could find one with KDSS and of all the internet offers I got only one dealer was actually able to provide close to their internet price and the only one who had one in stock.

With 5 2012's on the lot I'd imagine you have to walk out of there paying at most invoice. Or the real MSRP as it should be called.

Quoted 41,500 OTD for 2013 Black TE w/ Nav and KDSS...I think I cant get it a little lower than that though. Still deciding...
