How much does the cap weigh?

Hey folks.

Just wondering if anyone knows how much the cap on my 88 4runner weighs?

I want to rig up a hoist in the garage to take it on and off and I need to know how much weight I'm dealing with here.

Please post pics and a detailed write up!! Id like to do this, but the garage of ny rental is kinda iffy

Dingman has the right answer. How high are your garage ceilings? Do a google picture search for "hardtop hoist" and "truck cap hoist" and you will find a lot of ideas. Most are for Jeeps but they can be modified. I got an electric hoist from Harbor Freight but my ceilings are 14' and I don't yet have a tall enough ladder to install my gizmo. I'm going to install some 2x4 "keepers" from a chain so the Harbor Freight hoist does not hold the top full time. The HF hoists go on sale for $49 pretty frequently.

Like i said, 200 lbs.
I have a lift that we used t o hold the top of moms old 00- 01' sl (b4 they started hiding roofs in trunks, 05 sl55 got dayam, tho pops cl65 rules all) that I'm hoping to put back to work. Pics please!

Awesome, i'll go with 200~ pound weight limit. I'm not home at the moment to measure my garage ceiling joists, but I'm pretty sure they are 10 feet.

I'm thinking I will nail in some 2 x 4's or 2 x 6's to stiffen up the joists and to have a solid anchor.

As long as I can find a block and tackle (or something similar) with an 8:1 mechanical advantage, it should work fine.

Dude that is incredible! You mind elaborating on the parts you used to construct that? I.E. prices, part numbers, availability of the cables, winch, and pulleys that you used?
