How Often Do You Wash Your Rig?

I've resorted to taking mine to a car wash as well. Probably once every couple of weeks. Yeah, I'll probably get swirl marks, but it's just a car after all. Plus, we are in extremem drought conditions so I don't feel right sitting in my driveway with a hose washing it, while the neighbors look at me in disgust. lol

My daughter, and her family are in Frisco, Tx, HOT as HELL right now!!

In Northern California when they were in drought conditions, and water was rationed to watering your lawn early morning, OR, late evening, (only one) people, including my brother, would wash their cars ON their lawn, two birds with one stone, huh? :eek:

I was taught by my father that "Clean cars are safe cars boy, especially on trips and don't buy a silver one because it blends right in with the pavement and sky." His reasoning was that your head/taillights will be more visible clean and a clean vehicle stands out and reflects light better than dirty vehicles. I thought it was just an excuse to make me wash his truck back then but I have followed his advise and for the last 30 years I have washed my vehicle at least once a week and before every trip of longer than a few hours. So, has it worked? I don't know for sure except my dad never was in a accident and I have been in only one...and I have yet to own a silver vehicle for myself (did own a few grays though) even though I like the color.
 
Once a week on average. In the rare event that we get a full week of sunshine, I might stretch it a bit using spray detail between washes. Won't ever let a car wash touch what I drive. Never.

Yep, that's about 15 minutes away. This week we are going to break a record for most consecutive days over 105. Fun.
 
I was mine as often as possible. Black is hard to keep clean and it becomes a second job, but I enjoy it. With the rain and then the heat this summer it has been a bit harder to wash it as much. But when i do, it puts a smile on my face to sit back and admire it all cleaned up.

I did do a complete detail (clay, 2 step buff/polish/ then glazed and waxed it) back in May, so it's been kept up pretty well with a two bucket wash method.

Sometimes I will take it through a touchless wash, but never does anyone other than myself was my vehicle. I'd go insane over the swirls....I'm slightly OCD with my vehicles if you can't tell.
 
Once a week, black tends to show dust/pollen pretty quick. 4Runner is garaged and the wifes on maternity leave so it doesn't get too dirty. I could probably get away with wiping down with some sort of dust mop.

Washing it is a lot easier with running boards!
 
I'm pretty slack in spring, summer and fall, but in winter I drive up and down the highway to the local ski mountain 3 or 4 times a week, where they now just salt the road more often than plow it. So every week I take it through a car wash that includes blasting water under the vehicle, as well a cleaning the bodywork. I also wax it each spring and fall.
 
I think I've washed ours once since we got it in March. Haven't figured out how to wash the roof yet.

Go to Home Depot and get a couple of those Homer buckets and a 2"x12"x8 foot plank. Turn the buckets upside down, one at each wheel or so, and lay the board down to form a make shift platform. It's not much more than an 18" rise but that should be enough to put a hose and an extended wash pole where you need it.
 
Anyone figure out a practical way to wash their roof under their low-profile rack ( mine in a Gobi Stealth)? Currently, I pretty much dump a bucket of suds up there and try to push a rag under the rack as much as possible. Not working too good. Any ideas?
I like to wash mine at least once per week- the roof is driving me nuts with the rack! I have this tree next to my driveway that must be a halfway house for these manic sparrows. Every dusk they all play on my rack like kids at a playground- (not exaggerating here!) and they poop all over the place. I'm thinking of getting one of those plastic owls to mount up there so I can stop chasing them off every night.

Stand on the tires when their not wet, it's better to wash from top to bottom anyway so the tires won't be wet in the first place. That's just what I do since its free and works fine for me.

-Back on topic. I usually wash once a week on the weekend. I'm a big fan of Meguiars stuff as well. It doesn't hurt to use your favorite quick detailer every 3 days or so between washes.
 
Once a year. Bought it last July, washed it in the spring to get the salt off. If I'm driving on the beach I'll hose off the sand underneath when I get home.

Yup, 99.9% of vehicles in the UK are RHD!:D

My truck is a Japanese import (Hilux Surf, 3RZ-FE) with dark gray/black cloth interior.
