How To: AEM F/IC-6 Install, Tuning, and Help Thread

I am running the Stant
IK22s
and the AEM 30-4900 Wideband Failsafe Gauge

:)

Thanks. Patiently waited for a reply. AEM, Boomslang Harness, and IK22's already arrived. Will order the resistors, gauge and Stant T-stat now. Thanks

If you have any pics of the install that would be awesome. I might do a video on my install.

What resistors? The BoomSlang has the correct ones in it.

Pictures huh. Lol. So this 2000 4Runner is the donor vehicle for my 92. I've just been testing on it so once I do the swap it will be easy for me to tune. Still have the issue after sitting it will not start with the boomslang/AEM hooked up. Haven't had time to mess with it.

How are you liking the water meth. I just looked at this model today. What did you pay for it? Does it do what it says? Been looking at using water meth instead of using URD 7th injector? Right now I'm running standard pulley with just 94 octane. Runs great..no pinging...good power...no issues. However, I'm wanting to go with smaller 2.2 pulley. Thanks for the help!

I Amazon'd mine for the cheapest I could find.
Yes, it no longer knocks, I don't have the 7th and have a 2.1.
Since this rig is just for me to figure out the AEM I don't drive it daily. And when I do I am railing on it all the time. It are a gallon of meth in 1 tank....
Yes noticeable more power than not installed. Even without AEM.

Thanks for the pics and info on the resistors. I kinda thought they were in the Boomslang after reading everything but wanted to have them on hand just to be sure. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Interested to know how you figure the cold starting out. Sounds like the ECU isn't liking something.

Sorry guys this semester has been hell on earth and I haven't been on here too much because of it...

NoHair give me a call and we can talk this out this weekend. It sounds like the boomslang has some ****ary going on or there are other electrical gremlins at play here.

Why can I not use "@MTD" to call you out??

What are your thoughts on running the stock injectors with a 2.2 pulley, IK22 plugs, and the Walbro 190 fuel pump?

I am beginning to look more seriously at this AEM setup as I got pretty mad while tuning a lean spot I have. What should have taken 5 minutes to iron out took nearly an hour as I had record the pull, pull over, watch the video, take notes on what to change, turn off ignition, make change, turn on ignition, try again, etc. etc.

Anyway, my intent would be to just take the 7th injector our, take the "URD" (split second) unit out, and install the AEM FIC in it's place.

Thoughts?

I already have the AEM Digital UEGO, AEM Digital Boost Gauge, AEM Digital Water Temp Gauge... May as well keep with the pattern.

If you have the 7th and are switching the. Tuning computer only id say that's a fair course of action.. The only suggestion id have is to tune the AEM on the stock pulley first. Just incase the base map you create on start-up isn't quite rich enough for the 2.2

I'll be joining this club very soon, picked up an F/IC6 and a token solutions harness for an RZ powered 4Runner yesterday.

Ooooooooo! Details!?

It is my 17-year-old daughter's truck. We've been building it for the last three years she's driven it for the last year. Just put power steering on it and 33s.

I'm guessing since no one else has mentioned it, I may be the first with this issue. Alright, I originally wired the fic up without using the maf sensor wires, and it ran perfectly fine for several days. I have a Supra maf sensor, so I realized I should go ahead and wired the maf wires in since I'm getting more air and need to accommodate for it. After wiring everything together correctly (blue input maf wire from sensor and black maf output to ECU, intercepted on the VG wire as stated in the table) the truck will only run if the fic is plugged into the laptop. (After googling I found out this is one of the 'neat' features of the fic) The Aem software does not need to be open, the laptop just needs to be on. I've checked the power tap and it is fine. Tomorrow I will be unwrapping the rest of the harness and checking the three grounds, but other than that, I'm at a loss. I've been googling, and I found some Lexus guy with the same issue, but it was a dead thread. I've also re-flashed both the software and firmware and I have also kept the voltage clamp to AEM's default 5v.

I have a 1997 SR5 manual with the Type B harness
Thanks!

I did not have this problem but I also am running or stock maf. I am wondering if is a sensor ground like you suggested. Otherwise have you tired any of the other aem firmware? I doubt it is a software issue but it could be.

The AEM is capable of running from the 5V USB power supplied by the laptop. If the AEM computer doesn't work without the laptop, it means 1 of two things: 1) The +12V or ground wiring to the AEM needs to be corrected, or 2) The AEM computer has a bad power supply inside.

I'm leaning towards 2) if you think everything else works correctly, as the AEM computer would need that power and ground to operate the rest of the internals and signals to the vehicle. Troubleshoot a bit, then call AEM.

CAM wires

What is the point of connecting the cam wires on the AEM F/IC6, everything runs fine without them connected ........... or not??

For filtering the CRANK MAG wires, is 1.5k ohm too much, do you get a slight rpm drop at idle after adding resistors?

Thanx in advance

Sorry, I forgot to update guys! After resoldering the power wire, and all grounds I still had the same problem. So then, I tore all the electrical tape I wrapped the harnesses with to clean it up the crazy wires and protect it. After that I found out that the Ign Pwr wire pin had backed itself out. Of course I found this out AFTER redoing those wires and taking off my tape! haha
No issues since and I actually just installed my supercharger last Friday, so I'm working on getting the tuning dialed in! Thank you for this thread, MTD. It has been an enormous help!
