How to disable DRL's for an '01

Me too! You never know when you may or may not need them, you know?

Hence why you wire a switch to them lol idk if the 00 are the same as the 01-02 the earlier years are the ones that had the DRL under the hood iirc

so on my 2000 limited directly next to the battery on the fender side there is this box with a black metal cage around it, attached to this box is a gray plug with a few wires coming out of them. i disconnected the plug (2 years ago) and its still working (or not working i should say) great.

perhaps toyota changed stuff because my 01 doesn't have that. the DRL relay is under the dash, like the previous post.

I don't feel comfortable doing anything until someone who has an '01 just like me tells me how to do it. Until then, they're staying on (ughhhh)

On 2000 model 4Runners, you can unplug the small black box, near the battery in the engine bay, to disable DRLs.

The DRL module on '01-'02 model 4Runners is located under the driverside dash. You just cut PIN 12, which is a black/yellow wire to disable DRLs. i have an 01 and you have to cut the black/yellow wire.
i put a switch inline in case i wanted drls back on
super easy

Yeah, like Rock Slide said, electrical tape, or just do as smkd13 did and put some terminal ends on them so all you need to engage them again is a little wire in the middle.

I have spent the last hour searching and researching this, to try to determine the best way to disable my DRL's.

I really don't want to cut any wires, and I'm not interested in adding a switch to turn the DRL's off and on...

I was all excited about the option of unplugging the box under the hood, but I have a 2001, and there's nothing next to the battery.

Since the module is under the dash on the 2001's, is there anything that I can unplug on the module, instead of cutting?

i guess you could always try to remove the wire from the plug instead of cutting it.
but why go to the trouble when cutting is so much easier
i wired in a switch just in case i ever wanted them on again
or just crimp on a male and female connector if you need it hooked up again

You could always "attempt" to remove the wire from the drl module itself, but for what it's worth, cutting the wire is much quicker; Like OU said, just crimp on a male and female connector for later use. Takes all of 2 mins to do that.

Holy thread revival... this was like 4 years ago. I definitely just snipped the cable and was done with it. I haven't looked at it since. So yeah...

Yeah I did the same, not sure why people are hesitant to snip the wire compared to unplugging it.

Much better with them off.
