how to: fit husky liners with new carpet hook design

I ran across this problem with my new husky liners where they won't fit properly due to the new hook style protruding nearly 1/2 in above the carpet floor.

So instead of removing the hooks (that breaks them), I opted for a less hardcore solution.

What you need:

Something to open-up a hole:

4 rubber grommets of this type:

Pretty easy to do so I won't go into details:

- First you have to find your hooks location. I placed the husky liners over the hooks and pressed firmly. That left light footprints on the liners. Do that after having fitted your liners well in their locations. Use your feet.
- Take your OEM carpet and carefully place it on your footprints, that will assure a good pitch distance between the two holes
- use the center of your OEM carpet hook's hole and drill. Firstly use a very small bit and go up in size progressively. Do not use high speed as the plastic will melt and it gets kinda hard to deburr.

Grommets and hooks are snug, so I used a bit of grease inside the grommet opening to ease application of the liners.

Did the hook design change from 2010? My hooks pulled up out of the carpet with a little effort, but without any damage. The one thing I really liked about he Huskies over the Weathertechs was that the Huskies didn't have a hole to accommodate the hooks. I was concerned that water from rain or snow would slosh around and down the hole, soaking the carpet underneath. Maybe I was being overly concerned.

Afaik it changed. Mine does not come off, and is a kind of twist mechanism. Causes the huskies to fit badly.

I have had weathertech and only very minimal amount of water (traces) got through the holes during the winter.

Ghetto would have been to rip a hole in the liner with a pair of needlenose pilers.

Only thing is I would prefer not to have a hole there at all, but I doubt much, if any water will get in there with the grommet.

I think that having the carpet 1/2 in over the floor is much more ghetto

I did this because i've got the experience with the weathertechs, that water does not really come in contact with the holes due to their locations (I live in canada = lot of snow and slush)

Were the hook holes close to the same location? The Weathertech holes I ordered appeared to be be in different locations.

I had weathertechs in my tacoma, not in this truck, so couldn't tell if they are same locations.
