So, can anyone verify this for me. Is it really that much more affordable to buy the pieces (and assemble it) than it is to buy the total unit?

I only paid $216.27 for EVERYTHING!
However one part is not included. The Filter Reminder. If I don't end up ordering the piece I will most likely just block off the grommet hole.
Could someone let me know the Part Number of the Filter Reminder that attaches to the top of the box?

Vacuum indicator is Ptr03-34071. May be similar to wix 24801 on Amazon or other k&n filter minders.

Thanks for the tests and write up on the other thread. I just picked up a TRD CAI on craigslist. I read your posts and pulled the trigger. The guy has magnaflow exhaust for sale too. I'm on the fence about buying it. I'm really worried about the drone.

I mean, its a deeper, throatier sound but its not loud. You can hear that its there but it isnt loud by any means.

Honestly only time I notice mine is n the morning when I 1st start up , never think about !

I didn't think it would make that much difference in the sound, however after installing and starting it up (with the hood open) I noticed a huge difference.

I came from a K&N cone filter set up on my previous ride, and I feel like this one sounds better.
Also, I have yet to drive my t4r after the install. I installed it and left for vacation.

Hey everyone thanks for all of the useful information and pictures! I am going to be installing mine in the next couple of days and am excited for the bump in performance.

Quick question - do you have to reset the computer after the install in order for it to read the new CAI?

I have the K&N intake and I may switch over to the TRD. I like the more factory finish on the TRD and the K&N can get pretty loud. Look for it in a classifieds section near you.

It does look better, but I wouldn't buy into just the sound of air without a difference in positive performance. The write up and pics are great and definitely extremely helpful and resourceful for those who perform this mod.

Some of you guys argue about what a CAI is. All that term applies to is aftermarket air intake systems.

FWI kits are best. Fender Well Intakes. Either above the engine bay or below it.

I would never place an open cone air intake kit under the hood. You might as well call it a HAI at that point.

To those wondering or concerned about performance gains. For the modern ECU/ TCM equipped vehicles, the manufacturer spends countless hours of tuning for the combination of engine and transmission components they supply for their vehicles. If you want to enhance the engine or trans with added mods, then expect to pay to have the ECU & TCM modules reprogrammed on a chassis dyno by a professional. That would be the only true way to get the most from your mods.

More air in and more exhaust flow out will require tuning to reap any benefits to optimize performance.

Tuning of the stock ecu is not possible. It's uncrackable... Now Gadget from URD has a piggy back ecu that can be tuned but that's only for the URD Whipple blower that's coming out. When; who knows... as me; I am waiting with baited breath....

I've been waiting since 1997 .... while I've been fixing and hopping up toyota's since the early 90's... 1997 was the last tunable toyota ecu. Gone with the G force and the techtoms ecu chips..

Toyota doesn't like sharing... PERIOD
