Awesome thread...thanks OP and all contributors. I’ve ordered all the parts from the provided list to put in the TRD CAI. I was reading the posts on the aFe filters and came across this “Throttle Body Spacer” on the aFe website - aFe POWER 46-38008 Silver Bullet Throttle Body Spacer | aFe POWER
Has anyone tried this? It offers a lot of promises on gains.

Installed mine tonight with the help from this thread. Piece of cake. I appreciate all before me who have contributed and happy I saved the money by parting it out instead of buying the kit. Definitely not as loud as I expected it to be from what some were saying about it. You notice a difference, but it's not dramatic by any means and in the lower RPMs it is almost like there is no change whatsoever.

Can you tell me if the coupler that goes on the throttle body had both air inlets on the same side? Firewall side?... and that you got two --straight-- fittings.

My coupler has the holes opposite sides of each other and I got the 5/8ths fitting as a -right angle-.

I think I need to reorder that coupling hardware kit.

Yeah they were on the same side and both straight. Sounds like you got some other coupler.

Does anyone else hear a loud high pitched sound coming from the engine bay area when under load after installing the TRD intake ? I'm thinking it's the air injection system, but wanted to see if anyone else hears it. Thanks !

I don't hear that. Just a theory, but maybe it's how people are plugging that extra hole. If you don't get a good seal it could likely whistle on you.

Yeah, I left my Stock one in there, so that could also be it.

I didn't have that sound until I installed my AFE filter. With the stock filter it wasn't present.

Hm.. interesting. Does the whistling get pretty loud when you're under load, like when going up a hill ?

Yeah, I left my Stock one in there, so that could also be it.

I'll check around to make sure that the holes are sealed first, and then maybe I'll try swapping back to the stock filter just to see. I wouldn't say it's an irritating sound, but something I want to track down. It kind of sounds like a turbo spooling, haha

If there is more airflow with the TRD filter I might swap for that. I was under the impression most of the benefit came from the construction of the box

Haha, don't quote me on that, I'm just guessing. Maybe "more airflow" isn't correct, maybe we should go with that the aftermarket filters are designed to be more efficient. Less resistance for air to flow through while still being able to filter dust etc.

I don't think so. It's more around 3/4 throttle around 3-4k rpm. Anything more/after that, and it's just the induction sound.

But it is only prevalent when I run the TRD filter. If I put the stock one back in the box (cleaning, off-road, etc), it goes away.

I also do run the plug on the lower box too, so that may be the big part of the "spool" sound (or lack thereof).

Cool, I used the plastic push plug included in the kit to plug one hole, and I'm sure I looked around to see if I missed another, but didn't find one. I noticed while reading back on earlier posts on this thread that some people mention sealing the gap around one of the mounting points on the bottom of the filter box. I noticed that, too, but didn't think anything of it, so I didn't seal that up. I might try filling that gap up with some silicon and see if that helps. Thanks for the info

Just got my TRD CAI. I ordered it pieced out from Conicelli Toyota Parts. The total including shipping was 240.16. I'm glad you folks put this together and a forum friend told me about this option because I was on the fence spending $400+ on a CAI. From what I had searched, they had the best price. I guess this can very depending on specials but I'm glad I used these guys. Everything came in individual Toyota boxes within one larger box. I ordered late Saturday night and had everything arrive today. They included a company glass coffee mug, a small size reusable carry bag, an insulated 3 bottle (wine bottle) carry bag and a plastic water bottle. All were cheap times you'd get at a company employee gathering or something but pretty nice of them nonetheless. They also included a future discount card. I'd use them again for sure!

Stock base with TRD top?

So I have trolled most of the pages of this thread and didnt really see a definitive answer. Does anyone know if the base half of the TRD intake is any different from the stock one? Wondering if a Stock base would fit with a TRD top.
