How to remove chrome exhaust tip?

Is there some trick to getting that useless chrome tip off the exhaust? I thought it would be as simple as undoing the bolt, but the darn thing still won't budge. Is there some kind of sealant holding it on or something?

Hi Ray,

More than likely it's rust preventing the Chrome tailpipe from moving. Try soaking it with penetrating oil the night before you tackle it again. If needed (using a wood block and a mallet), tap it slightly further on. The idea is to break the rust that's fusing the two pipes (inner tube & outer tube) together.

When it moves back (0.5") using a cloth around the chrome pipe and a pair of channel locks, start twisting the chrome piece back & forth; pulling at the same time and it should come off with ease!

Best! rig

I noticed after unbolting and pulling away the brace that the exhaust tip flange is pinched in on the pipe. Take a flathead screwdriver and pop up the flange a bit. It'll be much easier after that.
