How to tell if my alarm is aftermarket or factory?

I bought a 2005 4Runner SR5 V6 4x4 last month.

I think my alarm is aftermarket, but I don't know. This is my first 4Runner.

There is a red button that sometimes lights up on the dash to the left of steering wheel.

When I lock and unlock vehicle with key fob, the horn sounds along with the "beep" sound.

When I DO NOT USE KEY FOB and just unlock the door with a key, it sets off the alarm. I can shut alarm off by starting car and pushing red button.

Please let me know if it is aftermarket or factory alarm and any other things I could look for that would tell me.

Thank you, I think I am going to take it somewhere to get it removed. It is more of a pain than anything,

Do you think I may have a factory alarm also?

When I took it to a car stereo/alarm place to get it removed....they thought it was factory and said if it was removed, my key fobs MAY NOT work.

You don't say what part of the country you're from. I know the all the 4th gen that came in through Gulf States got an alarm like you described. Take of the panel in front of the drivers knees and you will find a black box for the sensitivity. Look for a bright colored piece of paper wrapped with a rubber band, on the right side of the steering column. Remove the paper and find a plug-in fuse. Pull it and the system is disarmed.

I'm in Amarillo, TX. I'm the 2nd owner, the vehicle was bought here also and kept here as far as I can tell from Carfax. Thank you for the information. I'm going to look into it and hopefully not mess anything up attempting to disconnect it!!

Ok, thank you for all the information!

I think I might have found the colored paper, it is very hard to reach(if this is the correct thing)

Yep. That's it. The thing you have on you your hands is the cabin temperature sensor. Clean it off with some alcohol on qtip. It should go back into the panel were there is a little grill.

So the green thing I circled has the fuse I need to pull? What do I need to do to get to that?
I tried for a short time today after work and ran out of time, so I put the dash back together. Thanks for the tip on the cabin temp sensor also!

The complete alarm harness was added. I t may be tie wrapped up in a few places. Follow the wires from the sensitivity box,, reach up there and pull the fuse holder out. The guy that installed yours just probably pushed everything up in there a tighter than needed.
