How To: Wiper Fluid Reservoir Reloction
With plans to upgrade to 315's in the near future, I figured I would go ahead and tackle the wiper fluid reservoir problem that many who choose to run 315's will have to deal with. The stock resivoir holds something like 2 gallons and takes up a good portion of the passenger wheel well. Even with a 1" BL my 285's come close to contacting it at full stuff. Not to mention that since my ODL front bumper, the thing hung down about 2-3" past the lowest point on my bumper. Ugly.
I saw a writeup on EP where someone used PCV routed by the radiator. He had a 3rz and no A/C, but on my 5vz with A/C there was no room for that setup.
I stoped by shucks/kragen/oreillys (im sure vato-zone and others will have it too) and got this: IDQ - Auto A/C Products & Sealing Solutions
Its a small 1.5 qt coolant overflow that fits perfectly between the core support and the stock airbox. It cost me $10 and came with mounting hardware and everything. I couldnt have made anything better myself.
I removed the front and rear motors and the rubber grommets that sealed them. I then drilled 2 holes in the bottom of my the coolant overflow, just big enough to squeeze the grommets in. I made my holes a little smaller than the ones on the OEM tank, just to ensure theres no leaks. I ended up with something like this. The OEM grommets make really good seals, theres not a drop of liquid coming out even when I added pressure to it.
I pulled the wiring from down in the fender and had it come out by the airbox, then dropped the tank in there, bent my bracket and bolted it down.
Theres no room for it to wiggle and the bracket holds it up so the motors arent resting on anything. It also still allows you to get to the lightbulb. Im happy with the way things turned out, It's alot better than scrapping the wiper fluid, which was going to be a PITA during winter. And look at all this new space!
