Hybrid runner

Here is my situation.

I have decided on a 4runner, that much is clear. Either a 99 or 00 limited with a locker, just depends on price, miles, condition, ect. I have also looked into an 01 or 02, but I'd like some advice on that situation.

I live in eastern Washington and it's a mix of dunes, desert, and a few mud holes all within about an hour. There are also a few crawling places a bit further away.

What I want is a rig that will take care of all of these well. I realize if it's a hybrid it won't be able to do anything extreme in any category, but I'm fine with that. Variety is the spice of life, after all. If I had to pick two of the three, it would be fast dirt and slow rocks. The mud around isn't too extreme and I always have buddies with big duramaxes that love to pull.

I have been doing research for a long time, but the best advice comes from people like you. What kind of things would you all suggest? Back to the year question, what would be the best base for an all around rig?

I don't know.....kinda funny I think! My body has an 93 Landcruiser and thought it would be funny to install this on the rear hatch:

Maybe it will keep all the tree hugging hippies off his back????

I thought about putting a hybrid badge on mine. Apparently certain states allow you to drive in the HOV lane by yourself if you're in a hybrid vehicle. I know California did it, but being that the 4runner never came as a hybrid model, you'll be gambling with the cops that know their vehicles...

But to the OP's question, a majority of the 4runner's here can handle a vast variety of things. Heck, even a stock 4runner with the rear locker can handle a lot of things. I say find a 4runner with a rear locker (99-00), J shift manual transfer case, throw an ultimate lift on there with some 33's and you should be able to handle 95% of things out there.

I didn't mean to insult anyone, I bought the truck that way and just left it on, I don't use the lane I'm not supposed to drive in nor have I ever taken advantage of anything because its on there, I just thought it was funny. I have had people tell me nice hybrid and what kinda gas milege I was getting though lol

The prius repellent sticker i want for das tdi would work great for that.

No offense taken. I was joking as well.

I guess hybrid was the wrong word...

Multi-terrain runner? Anyway, no, I'm not trying to do a hybrid conversion... Lol. Just looking for advice on what the best base to start from. It's all explained in the first post...

Oh you were using hybrid in its proper meaning and not just its ASS-ociated meaning. I see what your doing now.
