....and no I don't want them plastidipped. Anyone have any idea if it's possible to get them painted black professionally so that it's much more permanent than plastidip? I'm assuming it's cheaper than new rims too. But, I actually really like the look of them, just not the stock color.

I am in Chandler and I got quoted $110/wheel to powder coat them black. Since I have an SR5 and would have to first buy a set for $400-$500 dollars I figured I could just get an aftermarket wheel instead. PM me if you want the details of the place I contacted.

I considered OPs idea as well... but after thinking through it, and getting a few quotes, it just wasn’t worth it (for me). To get the best price, you basically have to take them off yourself and leave the truck sitting on stands for a few days... have the tires dismounted, take the bare wheels to get done, pick them up, have the tires re-mounted, then put back on the truck. I just don’t have that kind of time in my life.

Plus, most of the quotes I called and got were still over $100 per wheel... total cost just couldn’t justify it. My FNs are 9 LBS lighter than stock TE rims... that’s a ridiculous amount of unsprung weight savings (= ^MPG). Plus, I just like them now a lot. I understand peoples attraction to the stock TE rims, I really do. At first, my FNs were just kind of different... But now, I can’t even imagine going back to the stock rims. Love the difference in look. Just mi 2 cents tho!

They quoted me $380 for 4 wheels with the tires mounted. Did you bring the bare wheels to them?

Yes sir & did all 5 ! Had my son's 5 done too he has the Sequoia split on his 05 . All I know is they do good work & I like that the shop is CLEAN not some rundown junkyard .:first:

You can save yourself cash if you strip the wheels yourself using aircraft remover or paint stripper. Google will teach you the ways. Of course this means you need a backup set of wheels, or the ability to leave your t4r on blocks until the process is complete. FYI, I bought my TRD wheels for $760 shipped and sold my Trail wheels for $475. After that, it was a simple matter of taking it to the dealer for a tire swap for $70.

Speaking of weight, I've not had a ton of success in finding the weight of the wheels, bare.

Yeah, that's real close. I shipped four in two heavy duty boxes and each box weighed in at 72 lbs.

I'm getting my Trail rims does this week. Trying to decide on a color. Black of course but Can't decide if I want matte, satin or gloss. What are yours? My place is only charging 40 a rim. I'm getting new tires at the same time so I don't have to pay dismount etc

Mine are a semi-gloss. These pictures don't do them justice, they look much better in person. I get a ton of compliments on them... when they aren't covered in dirt or mud.

Too many people use the TRD Pro wheels. If I spend money on wheels I want something everyone else doesn't have already. The Trail wheels look great so powder coating them for $400 makes a lot of sense.

To each their own, but if you are going to buy wheels buy something other than stock factory, or worse yet factory knock-off wheels.
