I'mma buy the 5th gen Limited. Replace the hood and headlights with the Trail Edition's hood scoop and black headlights. Replace the rims (if possible) with '06-'09 Limited 18" rims OR the 5th gen SR5 rims. Replace the front antennae with a Honda S2000 antennae. This is just for now. I'll figure out the intake and exhaust systems later. :boink:

Good plan, but you're gonna have to shell out some pretty major cash for the hood and the headlights, unless you can find someone willing to swap with you, but that's doubtful.

Thanks! I'll save my hood and headlights for someone who crashes their brand new suv or put on ebay or craigslist or even here for a reasonable cheap price. It might take awhile but it'll be always ready when someone is in dare need.

Me too... I'm going to give the "6" a fair shake, but'll hold out for a V8 if I'm not totally impressed. The Limited looks like the one for me.
 
Do we not have a Toyota Sales and Marketing guy on this forum to explain the reasons for this restrictive packaging and why certain models and options arent available in certain states, and why colors are so limited.
In NC zip code, it wont even let me build a 2010 yet...

I was youtubing '2010 4Runner', there is a ton of 1minute clips on various features.
A couple I found odd were:

The electronic shift switch (Limited) while demonstrating crawl control (huh? thought crawl system was only on TE?)
I think this may be Canadian site, but it does mean that they can do crawl control on a fulltime 4WD, so why not offer it?

I want a Limited (Silver on Sand Beige - it wont let me build this, using a Co zip code), but would like an 18 inch wheel option, a rear locker, crawl control, silver running boards with rubber inserts for slip, mudflaps and as soon as Manik has it.... a full black grill guard and taillight guards!

All Canadian 2010 4Runners come standard with full-time 4WD. None of that part-time 4WD for our neighbors in the Great White North. The Canadian 4Runners also come with different standard features and option packs for each trim level.

The question is why don't U.S. spec Trail Edition and SR5 4Runners have full-time 4WD as an option at least? Will Toyota offer a full-time 4WD as an option in the near future? Should we hold off buying them now because of this?

I agree about the limited color options -- they suck. I won't buy a black interior (too hot in the summer), but then my only choice is a white exterior. Why can't I have silver paint with a sand or grey interior?

Even if there was one, why would he or she want to make him or herself known? All everyone does is grumble about why Toyota is making a huge mistake because the 5th Gen doesn't do or have "X" or "Y" or "Z"...

My guesses are that at the start of production: 1) Toyota is going to carefully scale volume to match demand so as not to have a glut of inventory; 2) lower volume means fewer combinations (options & colors).

If you look at the options list, Toyota removed a lot of the standalone options. It also looks like they reduced the complexity by making the SR5 and Limited share a lot of the normally Limited-exclusive exterior trim pieces -- the signal mirrors and puddle lamps, chrome trim, etc.

It's well-known that the regions determine the options and packages that they feel will sell the best in their area. Before drawing too many conclusions, we should see what lands at our dealers in October/November. Dealers and distributors will tweak based on overall customer demand (i.e. bringing in too many SR5s when the demand is for the Limited or vice versa).

BTW: the Canadian 4Runner in the YouTube video has running boards (not on the US version) and what looks like the sand beige interior with grey exterior (the combination I'd want, so I'm hopeful...)
