I love 100% gas.

For 2 years I have always filled up with E-10 93 (through the company), and I consistently got between 17 and 17.2 per tank (all around town driving). Then, there was a short stretch recently that I filled up at a name brand station for 4 tank fulls (E-10 87). I was shocked to see my mileage drop to between 15.9 for those tanks! I went back to my 'normal' fuel and the mileage jumped back up to 17.1 on the last tank. No change in driving habits. Our fuel we get delivered here is either 'better' than the big name brand or there is a difference between 87 and 93.
ok so what is the difference in cost? is it enough to justify 1 mpg more?

A local station offers both gasoline choices. These were the prices yesterday. I use the 100%.
100% - $3.34/gal
10% Ethanol - $3.19/gal
That means my mileage needs to average at least 4.7% better using the 100% gasoline in order to justify the increased cost.
My daily commute is 60 miles round trip. My recent fuel consumption averages have been: 19.7, 19.7, 21.1, 19.9, 20.0, 20.0, 20.4, 19.5, 19.3, 19.8, 20.1 or around 19.95 mpg with the 100% gasoline. On the 4 occasions when I was forced to use 10% ethanol, my averages were: 18.7, 19.1, 18.8, 18.7 or 18.83 mpg.
In conclusion, my average mileage on my daily commute is increased an average of 5.9%. Therefore, it makes economical sense to use the 100% gasoline at the current prices.

Me too- maybe a little more, AND I get 18 towing the boat. I drive like a sissy though (reformed agressive driver)!
I live in the south... so unless you are in Key West "the South" has no bearing....

Normally I'm a little under 20.
$4.11 for 87 here in Brea, CA (SoCal). And that's a good price for around these parts.

How are you guys determining ethanol content? Doing the jar and water test or taking the station's word for it?

Ha, well I don't 'pay' for my fuel - kinda why I did not really get into the cost factor. I'm sure if you calculated it out it the best bang for the buck would be the 87...but....I know people piss and moan about there being no noticeable different between octane and mpgs, that people are just tossing away money, just saying (in my case) there was a difference. Worth it, doubtful, but I will leave that to the CPAs of the forum.
