Also realize that angles to the road surface and some other visuals play games with your perception of speed.

Measure the 4Runner, and it's pretty quick. However, because of the big, square-angled hood and the height it'll always FEEL slow. Just like my Maxima, with the sloped hood and low height always makes the passengers feel like I am doing 80 mph in a 30 zone. I generally have to point them at the gauges to get them to stop telling me to slow down.

Um, I've owned 2 Maximas, and you were doing 80. No slouch, those.

Slouches they are not. But they also feel fast, which is the point. You never have a "OMG I am doing 90!" moment when you kick one into passing gear. On the other hand, I have had a lot of moments like that in the 4R, which just makes this burbling noise and stuff when you floor it, and never looks like it's going to go anywhere fast. Even though you just hit 90.

Burbling noise? That's normal. It's the after burner kicking in!
