I need more keys - programming instructions?

I have one key, not enough. Dealer has ordered a new immobilizer key, which I'll have cut to the VIN, and apparently they have to program it. Or do they? Anyone have programming instructions? I'm not sure how much that might save me, but I like doing things myself.

I also have no remote, thinking of getting a remote start, does that interface with and use the factory alarm? I think it needs a key hidden within the truck, that's why I'm getting two keys made. One will be hidden on the outside for when I can't find my keys on a winter night at O'Hare.

I don't know about programming the immobilizer key, although I'm in a similar boat and interested in hearing others responses.

I do know that you don't need to have a valet key in the car if you buy the correct bypass. Below is a link to the bypass that I used with my Viper alarm/remote start. I only have 1 key as well but with this override it's not an issue.

Whoa, smokin deal on the interface, but I'm not sure if that's the one I need on an '03.

Does your Viper system use your factory alarm sensors and features? Are you able to program the trunk release to trigger your rear window open?

That override will work for an '03.

The stock 4runner doesn't have the best sensors and I don't believe the Viper uses them. My 4runner was lacking the "crowbar in door" sensor and glass break sensor. I had some serious damage done to mine and the stock alarm did nothing. The viper I have (Viper 5901) reacts to the vehicle being bumped or rocked and I have an additional sensor for window breakage amount other features.

I could have had the installer wire the rear window to work on the remote, but he wanted to charge $90 per additional feature. Plus, after looking in the manual it seems like I could do this myself without any real worries and with relative ease... although I have yet to do it.

You've now motivated me to get the wiring done on the back window. I'll give it a shot this week/weekend and if this thread is still alive I'll let you know how it turns out.

This truck will spend days at a time in hotel and airport lots, my strategy is to park near more desireable vehicles, and keep everything out of site. I'd prefer not to have a sensitive bump sensor, I may get a brick through the window if the alarm decides to go off on windy nights. Glass breakage sensor and motion detector would be a plus, but I'll be too far away to do anything about it.

I guess a basic remote start and remote lock system will do, I see some pretty good prices online. If I install myself I can do the rear window switch.
