I sold my Gobi Ladder, happy to have my stock gas struts back!

I’ve had my Gobi rack and ladder for a few months now. The other day I was looking at the ladder and realized that I will probably never use it. Every time I load my rack I open the doors and stand in the vehicle or on the back tire.

I also included the heavier gas struts when I sold the ladder. The rear tailgate functions so much better without the ladder and Gobi struts. Those Gobi struts suck, maybe it was only an issue for me but there was a ton of resistance when opening the tailgate. It was significantly slower to open. I didn’t realize how bad it really was until I went back to no ladder and factory struts.

Are you moving to a side mounting ladder? Or done with completely?

Nice decision. I don't really get the whole ladder thing. Never see people using them. Like you, I use my door sill panels, and tires, to stand on to get to my rack which I have had for 14 years.

Baja Racks Ladder

If you have rock sliders it's easy to stand on them while loading and tying down your load on the roof rack. Rock sliders was the first mod I did because it's so easy to damage the rocker panels driving off-road and so expensive if you do.

The ladder is probably the least used of all my mods but it's the only way to get up on the roof rack when you need to. There is no easy way to climb up on the car without one. I want to get up on the roof rack once in a while to get a higher vantage point. It's a good place for taking photos.

If you don't have a stout roof rack then you shouldn't get up on the roof. The roof is very flexible and can dent in if you step on it. The OEM roof rack is useless, IMO. If you tie stuff down on the roof in-between the OEM rack bars it can scratch the roof as things slide around when you're off-roading. I have the Baja Racks Flat Utility Rack with bars at about 4" on center (not the mesh floor). It's great. It's lower than most racks, it's easy to tie stuff down to it and you can walk on it if you keep your feet centered on the bars.

I was against doing the ladder until my kids shut all the doors while I was up on top of the 4runner. LOL I went right inside and had one in a few days....LOL

Then climbing down on the side everytime was a bit sketchy. It just is not safe and the ladder is super easy. Plus the kids enjoy it. I find it easier to close and open the hatch now that I have a handle to grab...LOL

I told the guys on the MN 4runner page and someone from their picked it up from you same day.
I also have the gobi ladder and stealth rack coming in june. Can't wait for it

I'm only tempted to add one for mounting a trash-a-roo, maxtrax, etc. Don't think I would ever use it as a ladder.
