I went in for an oil change at Toyota and came back with Apple Car Play!!!

I brought my 2018 4 Runner for an oil change today and was asked if I wanted to update my Entune software to support Apple Car Play, I was like hell yes!!!!

Finally, our prayers have been answered!!!!

if the OP is telling the truth this is a nice upgrade for 14 plus models. Its a software update so you no need to replace screen & stuff.

Im enjoying the retrofitted 2022 model in the 2017. Larger screen and car play is nice

Wow...stock head unit w/ nav in your 2018? Toyota site is showing no available updates but I'm hoping this is true, this would be HUGE as Carplay is one of the few things I'd really like to have in my 2019.

Look guys, everybody just call your local Toyota dealership service to ask for more details. I don’t work for Toyota nor a mechanic.

I am just passing info that was given to me by my local Toyota dealership. I was just told that they can add Apple car play to my 4 runner for an extra $275, I paid it and now have Apple car play. All the stock functions work on the steering wheel, the picture quality isn’t bad for Apple Car Play. The factory picture quality was never great on my 2018..

As far if it’s an aftermarket item or factory software update, I don’t know 100% but I was told by my service advisor that it was an update to my existing Navi system. I assumed every dealer could do it. It probably is something in-house/custom. I do not know….

I am in a company car right now on a job right now in FL, and won’t be back for a week or so. Sorry “Dude.” When I get back try to see what software version it is running. And I can try to get the headunit off to see if there is anything aftermarket behind it.

Nothing listed on Toyota's website... so I would be very interested to hear from the Thread Starter how this came to be.... sounds.... too good to be true... and its not April 1st...

Spoke with an ohio dealer and stated there is no software update to add car play or android auto. As for the OP its most likely a dongle/adapter added by the dealer to be able to use the function.

Okay, just got off the phone with my service advisor who had me hold and ask me to call back so he can speak to the technician who actually worked on my 4 runner. Apparently they take long ass lunches.

Your probably right. All I know is I got Apple Car Play and it’s badass. I do know this particular Toyota dealership does like to add aftermarket accessories onto their vehicles and upcharge them by alot!

Can you look under General Settings>Software Information to see what the Version number is?

Also look under Software Update>Update History to see what the Audio Number and Date are showing?

Mine shows Version 2.1 and Audio Update 0101D4 from 2016.

I asked the wife if she could do this. She was like wth…. Lol Going to have to wait until I get back. Sorry.
