Thanks for the reply…making sense now. My guess is that is an Android based box integrated in to the OEM harness….not a bad option and that price installed is quite reasonable. Already talked to dealer and they confirmed there is not an Entune SW update for my 2015. Search goes on for a 2021 HU replacement for me.

do recommend the retrofitted HU , I'm happy with the stock look and car play works great.

Read some of the reviews of that CTH unit on the FB group forum…most say works pretty well but has OEM issues when making calls within CarPlay interface.

Well, if this is indeed what the dealership installed. I will let y’all know how it is. I only made a test phone call and to the wife and she said the sound was fine so idk.

Since this was installed at the dealer, do you have a warranty on parts and labor? Did they provide a part number on your invoice?

The title of the thread was a little misleading. Sounded like you got a free update to the head unit’s software and voila, Apple CarPlay appears.

Then I saw the post of $275 for the upgrade. Had to have thrown some electronics at it.

I also have a 2018 TRD ORP. For sh*ts and giggles, I just called my local Toyota dealership and they are not aware of a carplay upgrade to the existing system. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but they sure as hell don't know anything about it.

I Finally got a call back from my service advisor. Dude is clueless like me, just asked me if I am happy with it. I am like sure but I need to know more info about it because people on the 4 runner forum wants to know. He said the tech is busy and can’t speak to me right now.

At this point, I am assuming it’s an aftermarket module since nobody else has heard of this and I am getting the run around. Sorry guys.
