Vehicles without Multi-terrain Select
If the outside temperature lowers to 37 °F (3 °C) or below when the engine switch is in the “ON” position (vehicles without a smart key system) or the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with a smart key system), the “ICE” indicator will come on to warn the driver that roads may be icy. Check the road surface and drive carefully. (The indicator will go off when the outside tem- perature rises to 41 °F [5 °C].)

"Stupid" it may be, but it IS a little more prominent than, say, actual black ice on the road. I think it's a clever reminder to the driver that there might be ice present. We don't often have ice by me, so when I saw this on the dash, I was instantly more aware of unseen hazards than I otherwise might have been.

Yes. A few nights ago I left a place that was 65 degrees and clear and 200 mikes later it was 28 degrees and snowing, with rain and sleet along the way. The "ice" indicator caught my eye when looking up. I of course then observed the temperature dropping like a rock and proceeded with caution, especially across bridges as we have a lot of bridges freezing up before roadways do this time of year. So yes, it did catch my eye and clued me in. It is useless in the dead of winter though when everything has been frozen for awhile.
