ICON stage 5 going on this weekend Raleigh, NC

He might have been referring to this...

• KDSS Equipped vehicles require 54200 Rear Adjustable Track Bar

If that is the case then no, I did not order this as I ordered the kit many months ago before it was discovered that this is "needed". My plan is to run it without for now and see if i run into issues as it seems to be about 50/50 whether this is really needed or not.

I swear by my balljoint separator. Mine's a cheapo, but so long as I can keep my cross-threading buddy with his air ratchet away from it, it should last a long time.

My balljoints never pop out with a tap from a hammer like those guys on the interweb with their arizona-fornia weather.

Good luck! I'm afraid I don't have and 4r suspension experience yet, but the word around the campfire is a ratchet strap around the KDSS adjacent to the piston is a real time-saver.

Looking forward to some pics!

OP, if I were still in the NC area, I gladly would have volunteered to help you out, pizza or no pizza.

Out of curiosity, what jack stands and floor jack (manufacturer, weight rating) are you using? Do you leave any big wooden blocks or floor jacks under the frame as a backup measure?

I'll probably be doing some work on my 4runner this weekend. Just wanted to know what tools have been working for others. I did try lifting up my 4runner with a friend's floor jack; i got one wheel airborne, but it seemed like the frame was on the verge of slipping off because of the angle.

You'll want 6 ton jack stands. The larger foot print makes them much more stable/safer. I use a 3.5 ton and 2 ton floor jack - 3.5 ton for lifting the vehicle, 2 ton for cycling suspension, holding skid plates up, etc.

i'll be using 3 ton stands and a 2.5 ton jack.

The weather looks like it is going be crappy tomorrow so I will probably have to hold off to do the install. Pretty bummed about it as I was pretty stoked. O well.

Not that I want to start an argument on this, but what is the consensus on this issue?

A 6 ton jack is rated to hold the weight of the entire vehicle. Theoretically, though, if you jack up the vehicle one corner at a time, with wheels still on, any one jack stand you use will only be supporting about 1/4 of the vehicle's weight (which means something like a 3 ton jack should suffice).

What do people use? A full 6 ton for added measure? Or a 3 ton, with the expectation that it will only be supporting part of the vehicle's weight?

I use 6 tons, not really for the weight rating, but for the lift height and larger base, which makes them far more stable, especially when lifting higher. With 3 ton jack stands supporting the frame, it wouldn't be difficult to tip them over while prying on the suspension components to get springs to fit or sway bars aligned. I speak from experience on this one

As far as the 3.5 ton jack, it is just much larger/stronger/easier to lift the entire front or rear of the vehicle at one time. The smaller jack I use to move around the suspension and lift parts as it is smaller/lighter/easier to maneuver. You don't "need" a 3.5 ton jack, it simply makes some tasks much easier.

i had this same conversation with a coworker and you mentioned the same things I did. 2 ton (4k lbs) jack stands should be more than sufficient but at the same time, always bette to be safe than sorry. I have experienced a few friends who didn't opt for the safe approach deal with the consequences.

OP did you get those installed yet?

Sure did, several weeks back. Been super busy and haven't had time to post of the pictures but went pretty smoothly with only a few minor "bumps" along the way. Mainly just things where they would have been super simple with a second pair of hands.

samsung --- On road rides great, stiffer (in a good way) reduced nose dive under breaking. I haven't really had a chance to do anything offload other than a few fields and dirt roads. Seems to absorb the imperfections better than the stock suspension but hard to say for sure. overall i'm very happy with it.
