ICON Stage 5 Problem for 2012

So, I dropped my truck off at 4 Wheel Parts to have an ICON Stage 5 system installed. A couple hours later, 4 Wheel Parts called me to say that the front external resevoir for struts will not fit. 4WP confered and swapped pictures of my truck with ICON and Toyota and learned that the mounting bracket for the KDSS system and the windshield washer fluid were relocated on the 2012 model year 4Runner. As a result, the Stage 5 front struts will not fit. I would image that this will be a problem for 2013 trucks with KDSS too. To make the Stage 5 stuts fit, 4WP would have to cut the existing brackets and fabricate new ones. The 4WP rep told me that if it were his truck, he would use the non-external resevoir struts because the difference in performance would not be noticable. So, I went with his recommendation. I will save a few bucks with what is essentially a Stage 4 set up, but I will not get my truck back for a couple of days because ICON needs to deliver the new struts.

I had to cut up the Icon resi brackets for my 2011 TE with KDSS. I was under the impression that this was standard practice as the brackets were made for non-KDSS equipped trucks.

Not sure what the big deal is though, it takes about 5 minutes total to drill a new hole in the brackets and make a couple cuts to mount the reservoirs. They just need to be a little creative.

Keep the reservoir shocks and have em modify the brackets.

I have a 2012 4runner TE with KDSS. I had zero issues with it at all. (Are they trying to mount the front external reservoir in the engine compartment?)

The bracket for the pass. side has a hole or slot for the bottom hose clamp in the middle of the bracket. Use that instead of going around the whole bracket and it locates it back farther and it fits fine.I've had mine like that for 2+ years and no problems. It' s not a moving part once it's attached.
We just did Jaker's stage 6 and here's a pic of it fitting and shows where the bracket attaches for a Limited/SR5....

You guys are great. I sent a link of this thread to 4WP. They are going to modify the bracket and complete the install. Thank you!!!

Icon Install cost

I'm looking at this setup for my 04, what did you all pay in labor to install this kit? The stage 5-6 kit that is....

Just letting you know, this thread and your specific feedback helped my installer immensely when they installed my setup about a month ago.....they forwarded this over to Icon as well. Result was fantastic! Thanks!

(bumping old thread) do any of you icon owners have any clunking issues with this setup? or any other weird issues now that you've owned these for a few years? :becky:

trying to decide on the billet UCA's vs the tubular UCA's... the billet of course look amazing but I also want to make sure the uniballs are low maintenance either way... thoughts?

Also is there a diff drop kit for the icon setup? or can that be bought separately from somewhere else? didn't realize it was an option till I saw it with the boss kit!

Diff drop kit has nothing to do with the brand of the lift... I don't think it is necessary for 3" lift... Any UCA should work fine. I think uni-balls are overkill myself, but time will tell. I'm about to run camburg ball joint UCAs with extended travel ICONs.

Huh?

Just trim and the bracket! Same issue with mine in the right front, but a few cuts to the bracket and it was done.

nice! did you get the extended travel coilovers? How is the ride? And what setting do you have in the front?

Found this thread because I'm also leaning towards an icon lift. However...I live in the Pittsburgh area and icon didn't have an installer anywhere close. I've put some calls into shops but have yet to get any response.

Any chance someone with an icon lift could recommend a shop in the Burgh area? I'm willing to travel 50-75 mile radius if the shop is good.

Last few lifts I had on my Tacoma I did the Toyota dealership (there was a good guy there but has since left).

Thanks in advance,
