Ideas for a shorter antenna?

5" Mangowalk attachment 5thGEN T4R

Just got the 5" Mangowalk for the 5th Gen T4R and wondering how others have mounted it as the screw attachments provided are not long enough.

You just need to buy the cheapo Autozone antenna for like $5 and use that screw.

You could just do what Toyota did in their 2010 and 2011 4R brochure (and website photos) and just unscrew and remove the antenna!!

Hard to tell because I live in a strong signal area. But I can say it is better than the 5 inch mangowalk antenna that I had on previously.

Picked up the Autozone antenna mentioned above for the base attachement. Put base attachment on to Mangowalk 5" and on to truck!

Works great! Haven't noticed any difference in radio reception yet!

I listen to XM, iPhone via Bluetooth, and iPod in the glove box. I dont use the FM or AM at all, so I removed the antenna and stowed it under the rear seats. I plugged the hole with an automotive-style christmas tree fastener. :nerd:

^^ Looks clean! I think it might still be possible to pick up the stations that are real close to you still. But with USB, bluetooth and SAT, I rarely use FM/AM anymore either.

Short antenna alternative

Hi, I just put on one I ordered through EBay and I can't tell the difference from the original reception wise. I found it by searching Toyota T100 antennas, it's the 14" billet aluminum one, a whopping $7.25, looks fine, even comes with a couple of adaptors. I'll have to trim the correct adaptor an 1/8" inch or so to get it to seat just right but no big deal.

I found the part required at my local Autozone. It's a Dorman panel retainer part no. 963-075. It comes in a variety pack and is shown third from the left in that link. It fits really well and the ribs match the threading well enough so that it screws in and stays secured.

I'm going to pick up a stubby soon to keep on hand since I can't find a nice place to stash the stock antenna.

First off, thank you all the great info and all the ideas.

I found this stubby antenna at Pep Boys, fits right out of the box only setting me back $11.99. I live in the DC area and I haven't notice any loss of radio reception.

Got me a '11 BP Limited w/Nav two weeks ago and loving it! I've already added the running boards, cargo cover and this stubby antenna. HID conversion kit in route along with Husky all weather mats and precut tint for the fronts.

Only items left to get is the bull bar and adding led to the cargo area and running boards.

i just pulled off the ball at the end of the antenna, cut off 8 inches, tapered the cut end, and then tapped the ball back on. Looks almost like it came from the factory like that. Reception is still good. I don't know what would happen to your reception if you cut off more.

+1!!!! I originally bought the Mangowalk 5-incher and was happy at first until I started to notice the poor reception in other parts of town. Then tried the $10 Pepboys one and it's back to stock quality reception. Plus this one seems to be much better quality being aluminum, compared to that cheap rubbery plastic on the Mangowalk.

Would love to get the Pep Boys antenna, but the nearest Pep Boys is about 120mi away. I'm having trouble finding it online anywhere, too!:ybrick:
