Ideas for a shorter antenna?

So what is the exact manufacturer and model of this 9" one from O'reilley's as I don't see it on their site.

Craven Speed Antenna

Just got back from a weekend of camping with the fam for fathers day. Checked the mail and got my new craven speed stubby antenna. Pretty impressed with the look, but haven't turned on the radio yet. I'm sure it's fine from what I've read about it so far.
 
Just ordered the Craven Speed stubby. The wife and I only listen to XM and IPod/IPhone so if there is a loss in reception it'll be ok with us. Hope Craven Speed ships out the correct product#. BTW, the truck is now past 1k miles. Now I just have to install airbags and hopefully get a couple of weekends camping in before summer is over.

Thanks to all for the helpful information on alternative antennas!

Just received my Craven Speed Stubby. It arrived two days after I ordered it, and as others have mentioned the installation is trivial. The antenna looks great, however as one should expect the reception is significantly worse than the full-sized whip. While the Stubby is fine for strong, nearby FM stations, even moderate-power stations 20-30mi away have significant static, as does one low-power station 10mi away.

I'm trying a few other inexpensive antennas that are shorter than factory (including some models mentioned earlier), and hope to post a comparison. Thanks to all for the useful information.

Same experience I had with the "Stubby", reception had awful static. I put the stock back on & still looking for alternatives. I notice the guys on the Taco forum are using a 14" from another vendor but their website doesn't list any options for the T4R. I'll keep looking.
 
Just got the Pilot antenna from Pep Boys and it works great so far. I more so got it just to get rid of the ugly OEM antenna since I mostly listen to XM 95% of the time.
 
Did I Break Antenna

All - new to the forum. Recently picked up a '11 LE. Read feedback on this forum regarding Pilot ANT-029B antenna and purchased one. When removing stock antenna with wrench, it just kept turning. I finally pulled out the rubber guard and had to use a wrench and pliers to unscrew from brass base. After installing Pilot antenna, no signal. Reinstalled stock antenna, no signal. Any ideas? Thx

Bummer....It is powered and you probably broke one or both wires off. You'll have to take the plastic inner fender liner off or loose to get to it.

i've been thinking about replace the stock one with pilot ANT-29B, got it from pep boy. but i just couldn't take the damn stock one off, there's a antenna mast tool in the glove box (a small plastic 8mm wrench) i thought it'll be a easy job. but i was wrong, took me 10 min. trying to figure out how to take it off. how hard it was for you guys to take it off? don't want to damamge the base.
 
I was able to remove mine by hand... I also installed the Pep Boys Antenna.
Again, no tools needed for installation. The entire process took less than a minute. I haven't noticed any difference in reception. Good Luck

thanks, i've tried one more time and still couldn't take off that damn thing. when turn the plastic wrench which comes with the car, i felt the base is twisting at least 20 degree and the antenna still wouldn't come off. i'm afraid that i'll break the base. :sobbing:
 
Mine is frozen on....I will break something if I try too hard....I even heated it which usually wil help...
 
I cut about 6 inches off of my antenna and spray painted the tip of it afterwards. I got tired of it hitting my garage door.
 
Alright, I just read all 11 pages of this thread and my eyes are crossed now. I've seen many good looking smaller antennas but will these make it through a non-touchless car wash? I had a nice aftermarket ~12" one and it got ripped off. I'm back to oem now, but I gotta get out and unscrew it before the wash, and put it back on after. And I'm sure one of these times I'll just forget. Any ideas?
