Upcoming Ford Raptor CrewCab, if I can only have one. For towing purposes, Ford F250 PSD King Ranch. A Jeep Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited for fun.

I liked the 2nd gen Avalanche, but Ford seems to be building better products than GM now. Pretty funny, when GMC Sierra commercials only knock on the Ram and Tundra. I guess you can't send a Sierra to do a F-series' job. :lmao:

F-150, before I bought my 4Runner. I was looking at buying a F-150 to replace my Mustang, but it wouldn't fit in my garage. I can say that I'm very happy that my garage was so small that the F-150 wouldn't fit.

I would take either a F-150 or an Expedition. I would cry for a long long time though...while my FIL and Grandfather would be ecstatic. We are the only ones in a absolute Ford family that drive European/Japanese.
And we get crap for it ALL the time!!

LOL and I thought I was the only one with this problem. My dad is a retired GM guy. With him it goes beyond giving crap to my wife and I for our cars, he gets pissed and acts like he's 5. It's ridiculous and a little sad at the same time.

Back on topic, I'm not sure what I'd drive. My previous ride was a 2008 Silverado and that thing was the biggest piece of rattling junk on 4 wheels. Had more electrical strangeness than a VW. I guess I'd check out an F-150.

Ford screwed me big time in the 1980's. I told them back then that I would never buy another vehicle from them, and I still haven't and never will. They don't deserve my business. I still have clear memories of the FORD acronym in real life.

'American' Vehicles


I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado that I purchased used with 74,000 miles on it. While GM is considered "American" or domestic by most people, the Silverado (and GMC's Sierra, for that matter) are both built in Canada. Note: Having a '2' for the first digit of the VIN indicates Canadian assembly.

Ironically, the Tacoma & Tundra are both assembled in the USA - despite being considered "foreign" trucks.

I originally sought a nice, used F-150; but could not find the right one. They were either '06 or '07 models that cost an arm and a leg -- or '99 to '03 trucks with 125,000+ miles on them. I like the Super Duty F-250 with the Powerstroke turbodiesel....but they are extremely expensive, cost more to maintain and the neighbors might not enjoy that "morning clatter" as much as I would.

If I were in the market for a new domestic-brand truck (and could afford one), I would lean towards the F-150. A friend of mine has an '09 FX4 extended cab, and it is superior to any GM or Dodge product in almost every way. The nice thing about the F-Series is that you can get anything from a stripped-down work truck (vinyl seats, crank windows, etc.) on up to a Harley-Davidson, Platinum Edition or King Ranch that has every bell & whistle you can imagine.

Both GM and Dodge (now known as "RAM") have re-designed their new heavy-duty line, as has Ford with the Super Duty; so the gloves are off. All three are decent workhorses that will serve their owners well. Unfortunately, opting for a crew-cab 4x4 diesel will push some trucks north of 60 grand!!

no you are not the only one I had 2 Ford's. 92 Explorer almost killed me on a Highway in Texas and was more broke than anything, and a 96 Thunderbird V8 that I loved but was getting a bit unreasonable with the gas and a long commute over here.
The Tbird was awesome, the Explorer a piece of crap.

The entire family is either still working for Ford or retired from Ford after 30+ years.
Grandfather is the worst..."buy American"....and gives hour long speeches about it

I am European so..I do not care either or, I go for what I like in a car/truck/suv and what is safe and a good choice.

About Chevy...my best friend drives a Chevy Silverado. That thing is as old as my SUV and it has all these flaws. But he loves his truck...and I love it only because he hauls my yard sales finds home for me:wink2:
Do not knock VW! That is my daily drive and I have a diesel Golf and it works like a charm..that is my 3rd VW in 10 years never had an issue with any of them.

The Raptor is beautiful but I don't think I will see one for a long long time over here!

Of the "Big 3", each has models that I'd own, and similar, no way in hell own. For a toy, I'd have to get a Jeep and just be prepared to fix it all the time. The new Rubicon body style is nice looking all tricked out for off roading. As much as I love full size trucks, unless I ever get horses again, there's no reason to have one. But if I did, it'd be a Dodge Ram.
My daily driver would end up being a 2 door sports car. The new Dodge Challenger gives me tingles, but I haven't driven one yet to see if it goes more than looks. Same for Camero, Mustang etc.
Regardless, for off roading I want handiness, clearance without width or bulk, and choices for off road mods. Daily driver has to be mechanically reliable, decent power and responsiveness, and safe in collisions. My whole family drives mostly Dodges after they left Ford in the mid-90's.

I'd take some sort of Jeep, I suppose. Parents had Fords for ages and they dealt w/ some silly issues. I flat out dislike GM products due to 1) bad past experiences and 2) their constant bullshitting of the consumer.

The new Grand Cherokee looks nice, I've always liked Wranglers, and old CJs and Cherokees are quite fun to hoon on.

I'm very happy w/ my Toyota.

Bear in mind that Dodge & Jeep are part of Chrysler......and many of their so-called "American" models are built in Mexico. Quality control issues have plagued Chrysler (now part of FIAT - Fix It Again Tony) for years, although some of their styling and designs were eye-catching.

you do know there isnt much thats actually 100% American "made" fords have so much stuff thats "made" in japan, china, mexico etc they are "assembled" in America.
same with chevy dodge etc etc etcm hell even harleys have about 30% parts that are not "made" in the USA but they are assembled here.

Kind of cracked me up, back home (kc) the ford employees would say buy American, lmao all the big car companies have plants in the USA where vehicles are assembled. thats why they are called assembly plants, lol
